How would you describe morning sickness....?

I'd describe it as feeling slightly travel sick most of the time, but have read posts from others where it seems to be far more dramatic / severe, sounding more like a nasty stomach bug. So, I was wondering how others decribe theirs....?

I agree with the 24/7 hangover. I have hideous hangovers that write the day off, except it's everyday & it's unrelenting. I cry weekly. It's so awful. 16 weeks in & I think it's getting worse Sad

Im starting to look like I've been on a 4 month bender as well - my skin is dreadful & I just look fat. Angry

Really want to bloom!

sheeplikessleep · 17/10/2011 22:15

God this thread is bringing it all back! Putting me off any possibility of DC3. I'd forgotten all about it!

pozzled · 17/10/2011 22:28

Yes, a bad hangover, all day, everyday.

Given the choice I'd go through labour and birth three times rather than facing another first trimester. It's one reason why I'm not planning on having any more children.

mousebacon · 17/10/2011 22:31

I think I agree with everyone! Currently, I feel sick from about half an hour after I get up until I go to sleep at night. It is totally unrelenting (I feel sick typing this) and a mixture of waves of nausea coupled with hunger.

In all honesty I'm just thrilled to have such strong symptoms but I could weep Sad

flowerflo · 17/10/2011 22:32

24 hour nausea. I wasn't ever actually sick. The only thing that helped was eating!

RedRubyBlue · 17/10/2011 22:47

Flower

Yep! Eating. That rings a bell. I once ate scrambled eggs (made with six eggs) and four slices of toast and fried mushrooms in one sitting and then was sick and wanted to eat again.

Babies are little parasites sucking the life out of you for nine months. Bless 'em.

HardCheese · 18/10/2011 00:45

I've had it a lot easier than many other people I know (and just from reading this thread, I'm reminded!) - but to add to the continual low-grade nausea, I'd add the sudden total urge to vomit which means you need to get to the loo within ten seconds, however important the meeting is.

Also added the complications of my Supersonic Pregnant Sense of Smell (which means I can't use the gym when it's crowded because the the smell of sweat, especially from the muscly dudes on the free weights, and have to cross the road to avoid dogshit.) Related seems to be the fact that I now also have a super-strong gag reflex to the point where a smell, sight, or even the mention of something I find faintly disgusting makes me retch violently...

In fact, I'm now retching writing this and am going to stop...

GoreSplattersHouse · 18/10/2011 00:50

I can't answer this as with all 3 pregnancies, even the twins, I never had morning sickness. Even my G.P. was a little Hmm. I did have the feeling of sudden weakness that got worse with each pregnancy, my last making me pass out and bang my head quite badly. On the whole, I got off very lightly.

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 18/10/2011 06:53

Hard to describe for me. Like I've swallowed a large bit of bread that's stuck at the back of my throat just behind where my gag reflex kicks in, accompanied by lazy stomach gymnastics. No actual sickness yet. But it feels like it's increasingly becoming an option. Sad

Reading this thread was a mistake Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 18/10/2011 07:13

Feel sick :puke, smell something : puke, see TV adverts depicting food : puke, wake up : puke, sit in a meeting : puke, drive : puke.
I ended up in hospital in Dublin after seeing U2. That could just have been Bono though.
I threw up through my sister's wedding, brother in laws funeral and many other such occasions.
But the first food after I gave birth was amazing !!

happenstance · 18/10/2011 09:38

Constant travel sickness, i can usually eat with a hangover but don't fancy a thing with morning sickness

so i always think its like when i have been in a car for hours, feeling like death and someone offers me a bacon sandwich.

It never ends well [hsad]

Bumpsadaisie · 18/10/2011 10:30

It's like having an awful hangover combined with the exhaustion of flu, for three months.

40 weeks today and tired and sore as I am this stage is still much preferable to the first trimester ! Wink

roz1982 · 18/10/2011 10:32

Spontaneous vomiting/knowing you're gonna vomit eventually after an agonising build up/vomiting every ten minutes/really needing to eat something and then immediately vomiting. Sometimes coupled with migraines. Getting so bad and unrelenting that an emotional breakdown ensues and dh worries at the scary irrational words coming out of your mouth and secretly calls mum and sisters to come and help. Being so exhausted from vomiting that you have to crawl up the stairs. Only wanting McDonald's when you sto puking. 10 weeks of absolute pure unexpected unadulterated struggle and hell. For people who have it worse than me, and there are many, I absolutely salute you. Oh and it's horrible when it seems to get better for a few days and then comes crashing back with a cruel vengeance.

bonkers20 · 18/10/2011 11:05

Horrid horrid horrid. It would put me off having another TBH (though my family is complete so maybe I'm just saying that to keep one step ahead of the instinct to BREED!).

It's a sickness which does not go away by resting - infact inactivity made me worse all the more I think. With DS2 we were on holiday (ha!) when I was about 7 weeks. I basically just stayed in bed while DH took DS1 out and about. Hideous. It was actually better to go back to work because being active didn't make it better or worse, just made the time pass more quickly.

I was sick each evening, which didn't really make me feel better.

Thankfully it was def. a first trimester thing for me - though 3 months ie 14 weeks, rather than 12 weeks if you know what I mean.

saltysnacks · 18/10/2011 11:28

An all-day relentless motion sickness, which in my case lasted 7 months with DS. Am now pregnant with number two and constantly feel like I'm on the verge of vomiting (though I never do). Hangover analogy also very spot on. Hangover minus the headache ...and the fun from the night before.

LoveInAColdGrave · 18/10/2011 11:35

Oh yes, the awful thing of it not mattering much where you are - home, office, holiday - as you just feel so dreadful whatever you do that there's no real point resting (although I did find rest helped with the terrible, crushing tiredness).

saltysnacks · 18/10/2011 11:38

I would also add: "A condition that would hospitalise your husband."

mildertduck · 19/10/2011 12:23

When I am having an anxiety moment I feel sick and I'm now at the point where I can't tell if I'm panicking or I'm just pregnant.

I'm 11+3 and I was feeling better at the weekend, but today I'm definitely not...

blueskydrinking · 19/10/2011 13:36

Mine is like bad travel sickness, mostly it's not too bad really but evenings are worse. It's the other end causing trouble for me this time!!

The thing that surprises me is the very physical reaction I have to food when pregnant.

Earlier I ate a can of sweetcorn (tinned sweetcorn!! I don't even know what it was doing there - DH must've bought it for DS) and it actually made my legs tingle, goosebumps, it hit the spot so perfectly.

But when you run through a mental list of what you might be able to eat, most of the things on it have the opposite effect and foods which you normally love make you actually heave just at the thought of them (sweetcorn is now on this list!).

Oh, and the stomach clenching, get out of my way, need it NOW impulse that takes over when you really need something, even if it's just a glass of milk.

Very weird!

hippieshake · 19/10/2011 16:25

Waking up to think 'I feel sick', feeling sick from then until going to sleep, then waking up throughout the night to dry heave over the side of the bed. Not wanting to eat anything, the smell of my workplace making me worse so having to take time off... of and the fact that my tummy is now so upset I have terrible wind and a mega bloated stomach.

Having been TTC for a year though, I am taking it all in my stride. Just waiting for the prize at the end! xx

JosieRosie · 19/10/2011 16:31

'I ended up in hospital in Dublin after seeing U2. That could just have been Bono though'

Ken, I've never been pregnant but that's certainly my reaction whenever I see Bono! Grin Grin

TheVampireEmpusa · 19/10/2011 16:49

Hangover + motion sickness + never ending

TheVampireEmpusa · 19/10/2011 16:50

"I would also add: "A condition that would hospitalise your husband.""

[hgrin] That!
