C section and caring for baby in hospital

Hi
I'm scheduled for a planned c section in a month but just wondering how I will manage to care for the baby in the days immediately following the op? If ive had a spinal I won't be able to move, then movement will be difficult due to the cut and catheter. Just hoping someone can provide sOme advice about how I'll manage to feed, hold, change nappies while still in hospital? Especially in the non-visiting hours!! When I go home I'll have lots of support but just concerned about in hospital. Any info would really be appreciated

Because they pump you full of air in order to get a proper view of the bits they need to see!

Erm, no they don't pump you full of air to do a cesarean, unless it's a laparoscopic cesarean section, which afaik has never been attempted! Your digestive system slows down as a result of the surgery and so you can get a build up of wind.

It might not happen for you though -- it didn't for me. Try not to worry too much! Smile

Sorry, Daisy, my mistake. That's what the mws told me when I had mine!

s'ok. Thought it might have come from a midwife. There's generally a fair bit of suctioning going on and I can understand why they might have thought it was air going in rather than stuff going out Smile

The trapped wind is because the intestines are moved about during the op. Its what causes that horrific shoulder tip pain. and also why they become obsessed with your bowel movements - they need to know they haven't kinked/nicked the bowel (very very slim risk of that)
