How old-fashioned? Victorian (Edmund and Cedric) or 1940s long-socks and shorts (Sid and Stanley)?

SnowQueenVictoria · 13/12/2005 23:55

William
Benjamin
Ronald
Geoffrey
Edward
Tobias

Don't know how old fashioned lol, just wanted some ideas.

I quite like George, but i don't know.Just wanted a few other ideas. My dd's name is quite old fashioned so couldn't really have a modern name for baby no 2.

Can't go wrong with proper old-fashioned Biblical names (disciples and all that) - Thomas, James, Peter, Matthew etc. Plus Joseph, David, Samuel, Benjamin, Paul.

Then there's Zebedee and Goliath

tuppenceworth · 14/12/2005 00:10

Arthur, Edward, George, Henry, Richard, Charles, Nicholas, Harold/Harry, Archibold/Archie, Alfred/Alfie, Christopher, Robert, Alexander, Isaac, Jacob, Abraham, Benjamin, Samuel, Nathaniel, Andrew, James, Simon, Philip, David, Thomas, Stephen, Peter, Luke, Matthew, Mark, (and my personal favourite) Joseph

Any ideas from those?

tuppenceworth · 14/12/2005 00:12

Or Stanley?

pucca · 14/12/2005 00:13

Lol, thanks everyone. Its so hard picking a boys name, there is so much to choose from for girls names.

I like Isaac and still like George...

Maybe, George Alexander or George Henry.

pucca, does your surname begin with P?
If you chose George Alexander then his initials will be GAP
Always be wary of a middle name that begins with a vowel

Gemmitygem · 14/12/2005 04:08

Here's some more, the oldest fashioned ones I can think of!

Edmund
Constantine
Augustus
Arthur
Horace
Cyril
Cedric
Vyvyan
Robin
Clarence
Eustace
Justus/Justin
Stanislas
Shem
Ham
Jacob
Cuthbert
Ethelred
Albert
Humphrey
Sebastian
Oscar

I'm sure you'll find a great one!

pucca · 14/12/2005 08:52

Thanks everyone...some good ones

MistleAOU...very good point, surname begins with F...never thought of that, thanks

George Alexander is a gorgeous name - and just happens to be DS1's name! He is nearly 4 and I still love it. Has a lovely ring to it IMO, and fortunately my surname doesn't clash with it!

Other old fashioned names we liked were;

Harry
James
Lewis

Pollyannainexcelsis · 14/12/2005 10:16

Henry is nice with Esme I think.

or Freddie (can be nice with an F surname too)?

JingEllBells · 14/12/2005 10:17

I foresee a resurgence of Edmund in the next few years.

Caligyulea · 14/12/2005 10:19

Edwin
Canute
Vivian
Oscar
Gideon

Caligyulea · 14/12/2005 10:19

Harold
