I know it's only a small thing, but I was supposed to have an appointment with her today - and she's written the wrong date on my mat notes. She put Sep when she meant to out Oct.

I look forward so much to the appointments :(

Plus, I need to talk to her about smoking. I was going to start a seperate thread about it, but I'm so ashamed about it. I started back up about four weeks ago, and I can't seem to just stop it. I'm 21 weeks, and I feel so guilty and shitty about it. I decided to stop, then about 5 hours into it I feel so on edge and tearful, I end up getting some more.

I don't know what to do. Can I use Nicorette patches?

Odd, thats really helped. I'm having a look at 'Just the Facts'.

Nasty stuff.

PLEASE give up. My mum smoked throughout her pregnancy with me and I can't ever forgive her for it. I'm a bit small but not really damaged (I don't think) but what hurts most is that she loved her fags more than me. Please put your child before yourself and before your cravings. If a mum is like a lioness fighting to the death to defend her children then please put up a proper fight against the nicotine.

Hi all,

Just thought I?d update you. I?ve managed not to smoke since my last post on here. It?s been really, really hard though and I have been using Nicorette patches. I seem to feel a lot better in myself, too. I?m doing more round the house instead of just sitting and procrastinating (whilst having a fag) and I seem to be generally more positive.

I?m interacting more with DS, and taking him to more groups. I?m even managing to go swimming on my own once a week when he?s a nursery. I?m not saying this is all down to stopping smoking, but I must have had a lot of issues that also needed to be addressed, but was perhaps using smoking as a huge coverup.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know that I managed to achieve it, and today will be the first day that I don?t wear a Nicorette patch.

You are a total star!

What a wonderful mum Smile
Good for you

Nooby that's fantastic - well done! If you need further inspiration you could try putting a family picture/scan picture into a packet of cigs and telling yourself you can't smoke a cigarette without burning the picture first. I did this when I quit (a few years ago now) - I wasn't pregnant and my motivation was more financial (impoverished student!) so I put a fiver in a packet every day for a month (about how much I spent on them at the time) and told myself the same thing. It worked a treat, and I imagine would work even better with a picture of your baby. I also read the Allen Carr book and found it BRILLIANT. (Oddly there is one just for women too - I read that in a Waterstones a few years ago to see what the difference was and concluded it was the same content but in a more patronising style...I would stick with the original!)

littleshinyone · 29/09/2011 08:21

Well done you!

Pippaandpolly · 29/09/2011 08:21

Ooh - I don't mean BUY a packet of cigs to put the picture in, just if you happened to have any left! But I'm guessing you don't now anyway as you've done so well Grin

Flisspaps · 29/09/2011 08:23

Go Nooby!

chrisrobin · 29/09/2011 08:37

Brilliant Nooby, you are doing so well. Good luck for today without the patch, I'm sure you can do it.

kiki22 · 29/09/2011 10:13

go to your local chemist and ask them what you can take. DP is quiting and chemist has been great with advice.

spookshowangellovesit · 29/09/2011 10:46

hey noobs i was smoking when i found out i was pregnant but luckily i was already reading the allan carr book so i rushed through it. and ta da not a bother i stopped with absolutely no problems. you should give it a go. dont let people on here or in rl make you feel guilty because that will only lead to anxiety and whats the first thing you want when your anxious. you know the right thing to do, you can do it. hugs.xx

Franchini · 29/09/2011 11:11

Well done Nooby you are doing great x x

hawthers · 29/09/2011 15:53

Well done nooby keep it up.

I quit 9 years ago (pre any thoughts of babies) but it is hard work so you are doing really well so far.

After I'd broken the back of giving up, I had one or two while out drinking (the hardest time) and it just tasted disgusting. I couldn't believe how much my tastebuds had regenerated.

It will be so worth it for your new lo as a smoke free home also reduces the risk of SIDS (I think)

pep124 · 29/09/2011 21:19

Wooop wooop good work Smile

fanks · 29/09/2011 21:30

Well done!!! I gave up when I was pregnant with DD2, I used the gum and it really helped, still use it now when i am stressed!

Your doing really well, I found never denying myself a fag helped, I would think if i wanted one i could have one but i made myself do something first, so after the washing up if i was still craving I could have one, but by the time i had finished the craving would of passed.
