Please can someone reassure me that the risk from eating these foods is actually very small?! I joked to DH last week that I wanted to eat a load of paté and stilton before I got pregnant again...little did I know I probably already was at the time Shock but :)
Am slightly worried now that I've not given the baby the best start (over-reaction I know but I feel a bit silly)

moosecakey you are officially my hero, Im buying a big fat block of stilton tomorrow :D Ive really struggled so far, im not a 'sweet' person, my idea of a treat is smelly cheese and pate so Ive felt punnished so far lol

My midwife said dont avoid nuts unless your allergic to them so Ive been eating lots as usual, my big one is tea, god I miss the stuff, Ive gone from approx 20 cups per day to 2 and im suffering for it lol

HollyFP · 12/09/2011 22:25

Drink decaf tea Smile I drink that plus White tea every day.

is decaf tea as good? ive never tried it! Ive been drinking tea since my mum used to bottle feed it to me because I didnt like milk - surely thats addict status lol

PlinkertyPlonk · 12/09/2011 22:37

Thank god for decaf tea. No tea would have been the final straw. I still have to drink a cup of full-powered, caffeined-up tea first thing though, otherwise I just don't function.

I'm very envious at whackamole for never ever having had food poisoning. It's one of the most hideous things in the world and definitely not recommended

  1. when on a 9 hour, over-crowded bus journey through central America
  2. at 2am when camping and the nearest working toilets are at the other end of the campsite

Actually camping full-stop is pretty hideous, but I digress.

PlinkertyPlonk · 12/09/2011 22:43

I'm with you Holly, peanuts are horrible!

Maybe I was hallucinating due to caffeine deprivation, but I'm sure my midwife told me not to eat nuts. I'm beginning to wonder about my midwife, is she making the rules up? Hmm

HollyFP · 12/09/2011 22:49

Spose decaf is like skimmed milk, you just get used to it (and then come to prefer it!)

I've had to experiment to find the ones I like best though Smile

im good at kidding myself Ill be fine with decaf - didnt even realise the stuff existed!!!

Oeisha · 13/09/2011 09:27

Nicest decaf tea IMHO is the Yorkshire Tea decaf.
Nicest decaf coffee is the one they have in John Lewis restaurants...not available retail alas. BUT remember both still have caffeine in them, just very little.
I'm a migraineur so am as caffeine free as I can be anyway (one NEEDS the occasional cuppa).

Worst case of food poisoning I had saw me lose 2.5 stone in 2 weeks and then not gain it back for over a year...only properly diagnosed officially when I saw my 'at home' GP who wondered who the hell I was...(Uni doc told me it must be exam stress and that I can't possibly have lost all that weight, the nurse on booking in with them several months earlier must have written my original weight down wrong - jerk).

As for MW advice. They will often recommend against eating nuts if there's a family history of any athsma, allergy bad eczma, but frankly, I'd go for it unless you have an intollerence.

AprilAl · 13/09/2011 11:33

Some decaf teas are awful, taste really thin, but the PG tips one is ok - not really any different to full-fat PG tips. I'm a confirmed tea addict, always got a cup on the go, and I've managed fine with that for 5 weeks now.

Slightly dubious about that stilton link, since I'm sure I've seen another NHS page that puts stilton firmly on the banned list. MW said no stilton too. I'll definitely be investigating further though since it's something I'm really missing.

I've stopped cooking my eggs to oblivion though since I found out about the lion mark last week. I've been insanely jealous of DH's runny yolks lately, but am now enjoying dippy eggs whenever I want them Grin

HollyFP · 13/09/2011 12:32

It is a bit confusing re Stilton, just googled it again and every other website except the NHS one says avoid it Confused Angry

I cant describe how pleased i am to find out i can eat stilton! Woohoo! Christmas is not ruined!

About 2 weeks before I found out I was pregnant I spent the day at a spa (sauna, jacuzzi, sunbed, champagne and soft cheeses for lunch). At the end of that, me and my friend went back to her house where I drank 2 bottles of wine and smoked about 40 fags.

I basically did EVERYTHING you are not meant to do in nine months in the course of 12 hours.

Baby arrived 9 pounds and perfectly healthy.
