Anusol - disgusting question, sorry

I still have piles from my first pg despite the fact that ds is 21 months. Now I am pg again, they are playing up and I was using Anusol to help ease the problem, not even as often as it says on the packet. The problem is that, after two weeks, the skin in the area has now cracked and is sometimes bleeding and is incredibly sore. Please, has anyoone any suggestions as to what to do? I need a soothing, healing cream of some sort, have been using Lancome Nutrix, but I'm sure there must be something more appropriate.
Thanks...

god huge sympathies, AnnaK - I feel your pain! I don't know about a cream (i used anusol as well)but I do know that if you try to make your poo softer it won't create the nice 'zip' effect that you get when you poo and split the wound again - try lactulose (from chemist - perfectly safe when preggers) and try to eat a fair bit more fibre than usual and drink PLENTY of water. I know you probably think you could do with not going to the loo so often but it does help. Hope someone else can offer help re. a good cream. (What about sudocrem?)

AnnaK · 12/12/2005 12:50

Thank you for that. Sorry for being so graphic, it's not anal fissures that are the problem, it is the skin above the anus (bum crack if you wish) that has split. So sore!!

I have no experience or help to offer but have some sympathy .. poor you

would sudocrem be useful? how about warm bath with bicarb of soda in water?

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 12/12/2005 12:52

Camomile cream is soothing, you could also use cream for excema as that is especially made for sensitive skin.

nailpolish · 12/12/2005 12:53

i would try sudocrem

Go to the chemist and ask for a good cream for nappy rash. Same kind of thing right?

PotPourri · 12/12/2005 13:15

Yes, try sudocreme. I also feel your pain as I suffered the same since DD was born last year. Now pregnant again and getting worse. Drinking LOTS of water helps, and TBH to treat the actual piles, a sepository is so much better than those horrible tube things. Lots of fruit etc.

But a good nappy cream fo rhet sore skin outside is definately the best way to go - as basically that is what is wrong there - same as your baby woudl have with nappy rash. By the way, a little smear of vaseline after going to the toilet can also create a barrier to prevent it coming back. Or, egg white and leave to dry. Have used this method a couple of times with DD when her little bottom was cracked open sores and there is nothing as effective. But being pregnant, maybe be wary or only use as a last resort....

Good luck (am watching this thread myself for any brainwaves!)

When this happened to me and nothing from the chemist would shift it I found amoils on the internet. Am a sucker for claims like 'guaranteed to work' and indeed it did. Price was in dollars but I think about £15 and arrived really quickly (I think they have a distributor in the UK). Also smells lovely, nice essential oils!

There is a breasfeeding/pregnant one and also a one for bleeding ? sorry, you'll have to ask them if the bleeding one comes in a pregnancy variety, I couldn't get the website to tell me just now.

AnnaK · 12/12/2005 13:52

You guys are great, thank you so much.I'll try the Sudocrem to start with. Isn't mumsnet fab!

if its any consolation, i had to go to a walk in clinic today to get antibiotics for an infection in my face which i got from PICKING MY NOSE!! How pathetic is that??? and no pregnancy/hormone excuse either...
