Help! I've developed restless leg syndrome, which is driving me cravy every evening and night. Has anyone got any suggestions on how to ease this insanely annoying feeling?!

It's awful isn't it!? I feel like having a full blown stamping my feet tantrum, but I don't think our neighbour in the flat below would appreciate it! :)

Haha u never know it might help!!?? :) someone told me that raising ur feet up above ur head can help but it's not made any difference for me :(

I get it every damn pregnancy!!! I try leg massage with warm oil and going to sleep with my legs up in the wall helped a bit with my first 3 babies then last time i read somewhere that it is linked to lack of salt in your diet so i upped my salt intake by a little bit and after a few days i found it getting much better. Dont know if it will work for everyone but good luck.x

I think I heard on another thread that a glass of milk in the evening helps.

BeeBread · 05/09/2011 23:36

I had it terribly first time round, not so much this time (currently 20 weeks).

Only thing that works for me is orgasm. Would regularly have to - ahem - attend to myself in the middle of the night but then it would stop immediately and I'd be able to sleep. DH sometimes helped but more often than not I was in a foul mood and it was a means to an end.

Worth a go?

Two words: Magnesium Supplements. It's caused by lack of Magnesium, so go to Boots and buy some and see the difference.

Yes, I'd heard it can be related to nutrient deficiency (that baby's leaching them out of you basically). Magnesium, possibly potassium, salt (sodium) perhaps.
Have a search for foods high(er) in these and see if eating more helps.

I seem to have stopped restless legs this way, although it's only been mild. I'm still working on getting rid of cramps in my calf muscles though!

I had this, it is the most annoying thing ever. After several nights of not being able to get to sleep I started pregnacare supplements (not meaning to advertise as I was around 25 weeks at this point and didn't think I needed them) but it has been SO much better since. I still get it sometimes but it is nowhere near as bad as it was and doesn't keep me awake. I haven't had leg cramps since either. I am now 37 weeks.
I tried milk and bananas and they didn't work for me.

Hi ladies, thanks for all the tips and advice. I've been taking pregnacare since becoming pregnant so I'm not sure I should add in any more supplements, I will check with the midwife though as I'm desperate to resolve it! Will also give the milk and banana theory a whirl, I don't drink tea or coffee and rarely eat cereal so my milk intake is really quite low... x
