Is anyone else making their own baby blanket or doing something similar?

I just started yesterday. I had decided for a while that I wanted to make my baby a personal gift so settled on crocheting a blanket. I'm an absolute beginner so have used youtube for instruction videos.
Just wondering if anybody else is doing this while waiting for their baby to arrive..

I've been paranoid about knitting for my wee one too early, but the other day I gave in to the urge and began a Moderne Baby Blanket (log cabin style) from the first Mason Dixon Knitting book in Rowan Wool Cotton.

I'm hoping that it'll mean he decides to beat the blanket's completion. I'm so ready to swap bump for baby now.

That's fantastic 100years, I love the colour changes, Ace wool indeed. What type is it do you know?

100years · 06/09/2011 21:54

Bilblio. It's James c Brett marble chunky. Is acrylic, used 2 balls. The colour for that blanket was MC17. I've used the brown/rust mix before too for a scarf.

I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I'm a fan of bright colours and chunky knits that you can do quickly. Thankyou.

oooh 100years that's lovely! It looks really soft too Smile

Stripes are easier to knit than intarsia squares. Fact. Nothing to do with being a lazy cow very tired throughout pregnancy! After taking 3 months to knit on side of blanket the dreaded squares) I've knit half the other side so far since Monday, aided by a True Blood box set to perve on help pass the time! sceptical I'm v impressed by the idea of knitting a blanket in 2 nights, images of knitting needles smoking as blanket appears at great speed!

Well I've used my baby blanket :)

Baby arrive safe and sound last Friday. Little baby Edith :) used the blanket when we went for a walk with the pram the other day :) pic of baby on my profile if you want to see

Congratulations 100years! She looks gorgeous, hope she liked her blanket. :) Hope you're both keeping well. I spotted you're on the SPD thread. I fell off the thread but suffering anyway. Hope your hormones and the pain are reducing quickly.

I have abandoned the crochet "WONKIT" for the moment to try knitting a blanket! I am using some VERY fluffly wool which is hiding a multitude of sins!! It seems to be going better but if I finish this one I will go back to said wonkit and finish that. However I did get a loyalty voucher from Mammas and Pappas this week.............

I haven't yet but I plan to probably will start in couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to it

My MIL's a knitter (and a very, very excited 1st time Granny). She's got a blanket finished (for pram, LO will mainly be in grow-bags at night), several hats and cardies and now she's foinf out we're team pink, I have no doubts she will be giong mental with pink wools too. Alas, I have little or no talent with needles, BUT do make jewellery...so my time to shine will be later in LOs life!

MissusTulip · 19/09/2011 17:21

yay! Blanket (complete with wonky bits) completed! As predicted, stripey side MUCH quicker to knit.

Sufficiently inspired to knit a teddy from the same pattern book. Briefly felt like knitting goddess... but started a new pattern with crappy wool and it's back to a bit of a struggle!

Will post pics when I work out how Blush

I have so far knitted a jumper and a pair of booties. I'm also half-way through a cabled blanket that probably won't be finished in time (seven weeks left). I have however done a rather nifty job of renovating the moses basket we've been given- the one my husband slept in as a baby, it's lovely but just the basket, no mattress, lining, bumper, handles etc. So I've found a mattress that will just about fit, have made some handles (handquilted and I made them a useful length) and sewn them on and am currently quilting the bumper- which I have made in suitable dimensions to fit both the moses basket and later the cot. I feel quite proud of myself as my sewing machine is broken and it's all looking really rather good! Very theraputic, and a good excuse to be lazy!
