Has this happened to anyone? Keen to find out for no 2 (didn't find out for no 1) but have had friends who were told they were having a boy and out popped a girl!

I read something online about the position of the placenta and gender. Apparently left is a girl & right is a boy. There are entire message boards discussing it but only 1 research paper that I can find.

If it was true though surely sonographers would just check the placenta position and not the genitals?

I was actually looking to see if a left lateral placenta was an issue and stumbled across that little gem by mistake. We haven't found out but in a few more weeks I'll know if my left lateral placenta was a girl afterall!

My ex-bf and his wife were told they were having a girl, bought a lot of pink, and then out popped a boy. Whoops.

The hospiital I had DS at has a 'not telling' policy but I was scanned at 23 weeks following a fall and could clearly see I was having a boy.

I paid for a private gender scan for dc#2 it was brilliant, they showed me all the bits IYKWIM and told me how they knew. Oh and they were correct :)

KellyKettle - they always check the genitals anyway, to look for potential problems. That's one reason why I always wanted to know, it would drive me nuts that the hospital staff knew and I didn't!

(The other is that I have such long labours that I am past caring by the end, and wouldn't have a wonderful "it's a girl/boy!" moment even if it was a surprise.)

Haha! Oh yes, I had that past-caring feeling with DD and we knew we were having a girl. They dangled her over me (forceps delivery) when she car out so I could see what I'd had and everything was puffy! I looked at the anaesthetist and said "what is it?". He looked at me like I was an idiot and said "you've got a girl".

See even a scan and genitals in your face and you can still be left unsure...
