What are the 'essentials' for preparing for the LO? It's my first, and I am amazed at the range of essential money grabbing items it is deemed necessary for me to buy... what are the most essential, what ten things can I not avoid buying?

Love captains idea of ten items for baby, ten for me!

The advice has been really helpful, thank you! Got

1.Cotbed - borrowed (new mattress)

  1. MAclaren XLR with cot in, last forever and car seat that attaches
3.Muslins 4.Swaddling blankets 5.Few vests and sleepsuits, home knits and snowsuit 6.Bouncer chair 7.Papoose / Carrier thing 8.Nappies

Cake sounds like a great addition!

Will think on about the last two items I am allowed!

Changing bag
Washable breast pads
Sleepsuits (with fold over sleeves for scratch mits)
Vests
Muslins
Car seat
Pram (not travel system)
Cot + mattress + bedding - not bumper as they are dangerous - get 3 sets of bedding
Swing chair

I've never used any soap/baby wash/shampoo on DD who is 18 months. Total waste of money, a dunk in the bath gets off everything, keeps them chemical free (even organic stuff is full of junk), is cheaper and lets their hair and skin cope the natural way. It started off as an experiment to see how long we could go, but she has beautiful soft hair and skin.
