don't know if it's just me but noticed over the last few days that my vision is a bit blurry. Not all the time, just sometimes, and worse at night (when driving get a kind of "halo" effect round streetlamps etc).

Anyone else have this - of course could be my contact lenses - don't have any trouble at all when I'm not wearing them, but that's most prob because I'm blind then and can't see anyway

It could be that your eyes are dry, which makes your lenses fuzzy, it happened to me. It could also be your blood pressure, if you feels unwell, headaches etc you should see your doctor or midwife.

mmmmmmmmmmm, yes pg changes your eyesight...to the point where apparently you need a new perscription, but only for the pg, then you go back to your old one....thats what i have found. and being reluctant to part with any cash for sucha short time, I have just 'put up with it'. its USUALLY something to do with the 'relaxin' hormone (sp?) that your body releases to loosen ligaments for the birth, its just abit stupid and releases it everywhere, in your eyes too. at least thats along the lines of what my dr said, but he was far more descriptive than me!
unless of course you are suffereing from blood pressure problems -which can cause eyesight trouble, when it can be serious and must be mentioned to midwife dr asap....
HTH!

I couldn't wear my contacts at all whilst pregnant - apparently your eyes can change shape and it affects your prescription. I was OK with my glasses though.

I need glasses for driving but not the rest of the time. My eyesight was worse while I was pg, both times. Got better afterwards (took a few weeks).

My eyesight was dreadful in hospital after I'd had my baby. Especially wandering around at night with no glasses - went to get dd from the nursery one night and was gazine adoringly into the wrong cot for quite a while before a midwife nudged me in the right direction!

thank you ladies - glad is not just me!

think I will get it checked out tho - if I can be arsed

your eyeballs can retain water - how gross is that?! it happened to me with my first pg, was really disturbing, then just went away. do mention it to your midwife though.

JabberTheRedNoseReindeer · 06/12/2005 21:15

Yes, being pg can absolutely affect vision. So can blood sugar. Have you had yours tested yet?

allycotownofbethlehem · 07/12/2005 12:05

yes I really must get this properly checked out mustn't I but am sure is nothing. Blood pressure usually low so don't hink (at least hope!!) it's nothing to do with that.

Anyone else really good about getting other people to doctors, dentists, opticians etc. but then never get round to it for themselves??

I had to stop wearing my lenses when pregnant - the optician said the hormones in pregnancy can affect you eyesight, the shape of the eye, and the amount of fluid, and could take 6 months or more to get back to normal after the birth.

chipmonksRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 07/12/2005 12:20

Yes, quite normal but would also advise blood sugar check to make sure its not gestational diabetes. Don't mean to scaremonger, it's probably just hormones but no harm in checking!

GingerBearingGifts · 07/12/2005 12:20

I couldn't wear lenses when PG due to dry eyes.

bubblepop · 09/12/2005 19:50

i had this problem too! my optician changed my contact lenses to fortnightly acuvue lenses, problem solved!
