Anyone else having a problem with getting iron tablets?

Hello, I've been having an ongoing problem getting iron tablets. First my GP would only prescribe ferrous sulphate and ferrous fumerate both of which made me sick. She finally agreed that after 3 months of taking them and continuing dips in anaemia she would prescribe the slow release ones Ferrograd which are easier on the stomach and shouldnt make me sick (was sick every time I took the other ones, hence continued anaemia). BUT, they are impossible to locate. Apparently there is a problem with the supplier of ferrous things and I called 10 pharmacies before finding one with one pack of tablets left. I have these but they told me they wont be able to get more in 4 weeks when I need them. Everywhere is the same - anyone with any ideas? Anyone having the same problem?

can't get it on prescription ( i don't think) but have you tried SPATONE. its a water-based iron supplement, very gentle and sorted out my pregnancy and bf iron count in 3 days.

try floradix... available from your chemist, non prescription, very gentle.... double the dose and take it twice a day. Full of vit c too which helps absorption...

2nd Saptone .... its very easy to take, but not available on prescription.

Have had anemia for years & couldn't tolerate tablets, this has fixed it. It about £6 for a box of 30.

definitely spatone! you CAN get it on prescription, but most GP's won't do it because it is more expensive.

It costs quite a lot but you absorb nearly all of the iron in it... whereas in tablets you don't absorb as much which is why you need such a hgh dose and you end up constipated!
Boots stock it... it's fab stuff

Could try Sytron (sodium feredetate) liquid. I don't know if it's available over the counter, but I get it on prescription. Very gentle, no constipation.
