Can I Take Diazepam?

I am 38 weeks along. I have wretched sinusitis and cannot sleep. Quite literally. Usually start to fall asleep at 3AM, wake every hour till 6, then can't get back to sleep.

I had severe PND with a lot of anxiety after having DD. Needless to say, this situation is NOT helping me or the baby.

I'm growing very, very anxious and desperate.

I have some leftover Diazepam from my first trimester, when sinusitis again left me too anxious too sleep.

Can I take it now I'm this far along? I need some help!

I'd try to pick up something a bit lighter & more reassuring at the library - at 3am deep thoughts come all too easily! I find Georgette Heyer makes me feel better about everything, but then I've always been a bit soppy... The World Service is very comforting in the middle of the night. And books on tape. But personally I'd steer away from anything that makes you think! Good luck if you see the duty psychiatrist. Don't forget to take a good book for the inevitable long wait in A&E

Thanks all! But ah, man. DD has a REALLY expensive foot to fit. Found out she wears a size 6D. 6D?! Arrggh! She has to wear Start Rites. I wound up in Russell & Bromley. Man, I can't afford to wear shoes out of there. £33 for a pair of dress shoes for her long, skinny feet! Still need to get her hair trimmed as well before she is fit to sit for Santa.

She is settling for her nap, so I'm going to wait till she's good and asleep and try and have a lie down.

Yes, I have read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell . Anything that's a tome I'm willing to take on. I've even re-read the last 3 Harry Potter novels. I got 'Moby Dick'! I figured it's worth another go - haven't read it in about 18 years but I can remember the first 200 or so pages gave a description of Nantucket and the ship so detailed it's sure to induce sleep in even the most severe insomniac. Also some Robert Louis Stevenson - he was a well-known insomniac.

Have appointment w/psychiatrist on Thursday and if it's still this bad I think I have a pretty good case for induction.

dare I suggest Da Vinci Code as a tome (you sound a bit too highbrow for that though!!). Otherwise Middlemarch. Glad to hear you have an appointment for Thursday.

I loved the DaVinci Code! Devoured it in record time and wasn't even pregnant

phew - that Norrell/Strange thing got me worried that you were a bit of a culture vulture. Well if you like the Da Vinci code, the rest of his books are meant to be virtually identical, aren't they??
