Definitive list of baby clothes for September baby please!

I'm 32 weeks and really want to get myself organised and finish buying clothes for my baby girl who is due in Sept. Been given some (various sizes) and have bought a few as I've gone along (again, various sizes). But, I can't seem to find a definitive list on the numbers to buy of each.

Midwife seems to think she will be average size. So, shall I buy some in newborn size and some 0-3 months?

Also, do I need vests? (I'm a bit confused about terminology as there are sleepsuits, romper suits, babygros..... they all kind of merge into one!).

Thanks so much!

Thanks Jojay i might buy a pack of newborn ones in sleeveless (nearer the time when I have some sort of estimate of her size - although she is consistently on the 50th percentile - bang in the middle:)

Are the mothercare ones good? Do they wash well - i.e. don't stretch out and hold their shape?
It will be winter so I won't be using them other than under clothing so don't want coloured ones as they will clash with what's on top neurotic mother emoticon so basically makes my life easier as buying white ones only :)

I had a September baby 3 years ago. In the first few weeks he wore (newborn size) mainly vests and sleepsuits and cardies. We had about 10 of each, but you could get away with fewer if you have a tumble dryer.

As the weather got cooler, he started dressing up a bit more. We got SO MANY clothes as presents when he was born, I'd really hold off buying too much stuff now.

And don't forget - the shops will still be open after she's born!

For winter in a Baby Bjorn, I'd highly recommend a Baby Bjorn fleece cover - BB cover

Beesok I've got some mothercare sleeveless vests (although they're all patterned ones) and I think they're pretty good. I've been using the same 7 for about 4-5 months and they're still fine. The necklines are really big on them. The asda ones I had weren't very good at all, seem to stretch in every wash and don't feel great. I've also had sainsburys and I think they're surprisingly good quality but the neckline's quite small for my DD's gigantic head! Grin

im having a sept baby too, and DS was an august baby 5 years ago, so ive kept all his things (and luckily this one is a boy too), so everything should come in handy. For nighttime, i used to put his nappy on, a short sleeved bodysuit and a sleepsuit (with feet in) and then just his moses basket coverlet, he was always snugly warm :-)

I had the most horrid health visitor who came when he was just 2 weeks and bellowed "why is he in a sleepsuit at lunchtime?" i told her it obv wasnt the one he had slept in so what was the problem, she (wrongly) said that if a baby has its feet covered all the time, then it doesnt know when its night time and will never develop a night time routine! My mum went mad but i believed hv (stupid, stupid, stupid) and from then on, DS was dressed everyday and only had sleepsuits for night. Didnt make one ounce of difference, he wasnt a good sleeper anyway.

Sorry that was a bit off topic, just dont take every word your HV says as gospel truth, listen to your mums lol.

May I just add that it might be an idea to get some stuff in tiny baby - Mothercare is 7.5lbs, which doesnt actually sound at all tiny to me! I've treated this as 'first size' as Mothercare stuff tends to come up big (DS was in the Newborn stuff from there at a couple of months old). I've got 12 vests in Tiny baby, and intend to get the same amount of sleepsuits - but now I'm panicking its going to be a whooping great baby so I intend to start on the Newborn stuff (same quantities) asap. But I've got 17 weeks to go yet...

I had to 'dress' DS during the day - if I had put him in a sleepsuit I would have felt he'd have been in his PJ's all day, so had about 7 little outfits, with matching hats, socks, and I would have to put little slipper thingys on him when out. Had a few matching cardy/hat sets, and a little jacket and a snowsuit (I know what people say about them, but at least it would stay on, unlike blankets).

6 sleepsuits (with feet included)
6 vests
something warm to go over for when you go out
15 muslins
hat for when you go out

I would go for plain white from John Lewis, they are cheap. Don't buy any more than that because you may well be given loads of stuff.

I wouldn't bother buying more than a couple of blankets, because you'll probably end up buying Gro-bags as soon as the baby is old enough to have them.
