Just that really. It's all hypothetically speaking at the moment but if I was ttc a September baby and had my wedding in Februar and was lucky enough to conceive end of December would I need dress alterations? Wink

My first thought when I read your post was " oh man I couldn't imagine my wedding day on top of being pregnant!" My first 16 weeks weren't very bad as far as sickness was concerned but the continuous nausea was dreadful! I wanted to lie down/sleep all day. If you wait until 2nd trimester then you probably will show by then.

Not to put you off pregnancy but couldn't you wait until you got married? If you got married in feb, then you wouldn't have to wait that much longer and then you have a honeymoon baby! (I'm talking like you'll fall pregnant straight away as I did)

superjobee · 28/07/2011 10:12

dont worry gwen im chubby too, i dont show with this PG when im sitting down i just look lardy! im almost 27 weeks and im sure the only reason i show when im standing is because he's a boy and sits sooooo high up :)

RockinSockBunnies · 28/07/2011 10:13

I had a bump at 7 weeks. But then I used to be super skinny when I got preganant

chickensaregreen · 28/07/2011 16:12

Thanks everyone for your experiences. Think it's best to wait re baby or wedding! I am aiming for Sept baby as I am a teacher and it is the least disruptive to the children in my class. Will see how it goes!

the only thing I would add though is be careful about planning when you want the baby born, only because I wouldn't want you to be disppointed if you don't fall when you hope to, it took 5 months until I fell pregnant but I know others who have fallen straight away and some who took several years.

Even if you did fall as planned, there's no guarantee that the baby will arrive on time, a friend of mine delivered at 34 weeks.

I don't want to put you on a downer though, just want you to be aware.

Good luck!

chickensaregreen · 28/07/2011 16:34

Thanks. I know it's highly unlikely but may as well plan for best situation and go from there! I can only hope. Thanks again everyone.

Hello, I'm a bit late to this thread...

I'm only 7 weeks into my first pregnancy, due in mid-March. I was wondering as I'm tall and thin if the bump will show sooner, or later? I've usually got a fairly flat tummy (though it's a bit bloated at the moment!)

And this may sound stupid, but are maternity clothes designed to stretch to accommodate your growing bump, so you can wear them through various stages, or do you have to buy different ones as you get bigger? I'd like to buy a couple of nice things that will hopefully last, but don't want to spend too much if they only last a couple of months. Is it better to just buy slightly larger sizes of normal clothes with the initial bump, or will they look awful?

X

GetOffOfMyCloud · 29/07/2011 10:38

noooooo!!!! I just typed a whole load of advice for you and my computer went loopy and lost it all Angry Sad

I'll try again in a minute

GetOffOfMyCloud · 29/07/2011 10:52

Right, cos my computer went loopy and I can't be arsed don't have time to type it all properly again I'm going with bullet points! Hope you don't mind Grin

-bumps show at various times, there's no real way of predicting it
-buy your normal size in maternity clothes (unless you put on loads of weight everywhere) they are designed to stretch as bump grows
-I bought cheap supermarket trousers in a size larger for early days then maternity under the bump trousers
-I now have over the bump though as the unders dig in too much when i sit down and are uncomfortable, or feel like they are falling down when I stand up, everyones different though and most people prefer one style over the other.
-You can usually get away with your normal tops for a lot longer, I'm 27 weeks and still wear some of my pre-preg tops.
-stretchy jersey dresses (and cheap jogging bottoms for round the house) are a god send at times! As are DPs shirts Grin
-I didn't spend a fortune of maternity clothes, 2 pairs of trousers, 3 pairs of jeans (which I can wear at work) and a non maternity empire line maxi dress. A couple of pre-preg stretchy dresses also still fit without looking "pulled".
-I got a few cheap maternity t-shirts and vests in various colours and I change the outfits quite a lot by wearing my pre-preg cardigans, blouses and jackets unbuttoned and lots of different funky jewellery.
-I didn't get all my maternity stuff in one go, just as I grew out of something else, if you're in the UK, Top Shop and New Look are good for basics and Next online can be quite good too.

Hope that all helps and good luck with everything.

Crosshair · 29/07/2011 11:35

I got some £4 jogging bottoms from asda for chilling out around the house in. Eveything else was starting to dig in my tummy bloat. Only thing Ive bought so far, but Im only 17 weeks.

KikiRC · 29/07/2011 14:54

Thanks, Ladies (especially getoff for writing yours twice!) Really helpful.

I'm guessing I won't go back to my normal size (at least straight away) so just larger-sized things will be useful after the birth, too. I have to say, looking at Topshop I was very cheered up by their maternity range- a lot of their stuff looks really nice. I'm guessing that as I'll be at my biggest through the winter that over-the-bump trousers will be warmer, but like you say, I guess it depends how they feel on.

Interesting how weight allocates itself, too- a very close friend usually about a size 12 was enormous and had to tell people at work before she reached 3 months because it was really obvious. Another friend was mildly horrified that she put on a lot of weight concentrated around her bum. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. X

LivinInTheMoment · 29/07/2011 18:19

this is my first and as i'm pg immediatley after a mc, i don't know exactly my dates! I think i'm about 8 wks. I'm a size 10/12 and i'm 5ft 4.

My jeans are too tight already and i can't sit down with the button on my jeans closed... need to switch to jeggings or leggings soon!

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 29/07/2011 18:40

OH and I started trying TTC in Feb, thinking "meh...it'll take a good few months" fell pg the next month. Our wedding was booked for end of May nd i'd had the dress a year. Shop bought, so no chance of alterations. Was 11 weeks on the wedding day and was bursting out of it! No-one knew except me, him, best man and maid of honour, not even parents etc. When we told people, they then could SEE that I was pregnant but not before I said, IYSWIM.

I don't want to hijak (sp?) the thread with the above, but literally just went through this a couple of months ago Blush

I felt great on the day, the adrenaline kept me going, was a late ceremony, so didn' have to rush around in the morning, and was the last one off the dancefloor. It was a real pleasure to reveal to everyone during my speech that I was pg....everyone's jaw dropped, and it just magnified the day!

If I were you, i'd be more "worried" about if you get pg in September, then you'd have a 5 month bump! There are, however, some stunning maternity wedding dresses!!

Oh, and to answer the origional qu, I 'popped' out at 14 weeks.

notlettingthefearshow · 29/07/2011 22:28

I agree with Ilovekittylise - I wouldn't ttc just before the wedding unless you've been advised to hurry it up, e.g. you're approaching 40 and don't want to waste any precious months. Just enjoy the wedding and a bit of time the two of you!

nannyl · 29/07/2011 23:43

I am due 11th sep.

I had HG so was very very sick and had lost a stone by 9 weeks.

despite this i was in maternity clothes by 12 weeks, which was about 27 Feb 2011. By 8 weeks my boobs had grown from 34C to 38E Shock

I doubt you'd need alterations unless the dress was very very fitted.

However also bear in mind i felt horrendous with HG. I had been in and out of hospital on a drip, and at that point in time had spent 7 weeks in bed feeling horiffic (think worlds worst hangover + how ill you feel at the worst point of real flu). There is no way i would have wanted to get married in February, and not sure i even could have got to a wedding.
Was bedridden from beginning of January and would NOT have been able to do any wedding prep etc.

Fingers crossed you wont get HG, like me, but even if you have a more normal level of sickness you could still be feeling horrendous / exhausted like you have never felt before. (or you could be a lucky person who doesnt get any)

chickensaregreen · 30/07/2011 09:08

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. I will take your advice and wait I think...or go to Las Vegas before ttc at end of Dec (but that's another thread! Grin

With 1st around 20wk, 2nd is a different story im now 11+5 and dont fit in most of my clothes and have a little bump blob...
Good luck :) with ttc and wedding

AlpinePony · 30/07/2011 10:48

gwen/jobee I'm no twee thing either and during my last pregnancy a lot of people didn't know (small, high bump and seemingly genetic). I wore maxi-dresses and t-shirts which just went out from my already large boobs (F cup) and I just looked fat.

I'm now 11 weeks and have just splurged on some fitted(!) Maternity wear although no bump yet and have lost weight. But this time I will stick a fecking cushion up there if I have to! ;)

Sorry to hi-jack.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 30/07/2011 11:14

:o. I am taking great delight in not having to try to breathe in! And I'm deliberately wearing the clothes that make me look most pregnant. But then I dread anyone asking me how far I am because I'd have to say 17 weeks and then I'd get the Hmm face!

eaglewings · 30/07/2011 12:03

6 weeks and already got the maternity clothes out, bliss. Mind you it's #4 and I'm old.
Friend had zip in her wediing dress replaced by corset type ribbons up the back and an insert to cover the gap. She was just 8 weeks. It looked so beautiful but she had such bad morning sickness it was a difficult day :(
