Buying baby stuff - Mum is trying to put me off

I've seen the pram I want on ebay, and I really want to buy it, as its half price and I haven't seen it come up at all before. I've been looking for a couple of weeks, and I can't find any discounts anywhere else. This comes with loads of extras, so I'm finding it hard to resist the temptation. Its in a convenient place for me to pick it up, so I don't see any reason not to buy it now. I'm 23 weeks, and my mum is trying really hard to stop me, I know she just doesn't want me to get carried away, but the way I see it, things are unlikely to go wrong at this stage, and certainly no more likely in 6 weeks. I always said I wanted to get everything by the end of the school holidays anyway, so whats the difference?

What I'm really asking is, does anyone have any superstitions about buying stuff before a certain date/milestone, and when did you all buy the necessaries?

I mean its not like I'm buying nappies!

Its a lime green Silver Cross Surf, including an unused car seat, a cosy matching sleeping bag and all accessories. All this would cost £690 new, and I just got it for the bargain price of £350! I cannot believe my luck, its all the accessories I wanted, and nothing extra in the package, so I'm not paying for anything I don't want. I adore the bright colour as well, and since I don't know what I'm having I thought this would do nicely for a boy or a girl. (I think its a boy, I'm sure I saw bits on the scan, and no it wasn't the umbilical cord!) This is the first major thing I've bought (apart from a coat we bought in Iceland when I was 12 weeks) for the baby, and I can't wait to get it, it just makes everything seem so real!

Very nice. Lovely colour. I had a Luna in a similar colour and loved it.

I did not spend all day wheeling my empty pram round the living room on the day I picked it up and miss DH's niece's christening... Hmm :o

I can see me spending too much some time practising putting it up and down, and taking the car seat on and off! Mind you, I'm a teacher in the school holidays, its not like I have anywhere to be!

Hello,

DH and I bought a pram on eBay before our first scan. We have just about everything we need for our little baby and I am 28 weeks pregnant.

My mother advised me to wait, but I am not superstitious and I found the exact pram I wanted for a very good price. DH and I reasoned that if something bad happens/happened to this pregnancy we would ttc again and again until it all went well. And in the horrible event that we never have children we would probably be so upset that we wouldn't care one way or another about all the baby gear.

Good luck!

eBay is a marvelous invention!

Hooray for buying prams ! Daft things, these superstitions. I used the same buggy for DD1 and DD2- how could i have avoided having that in the house?!?!

allthefires · 25/07/2011 19:23

Im all for a bargain at any stage of pregnancy and I live my prams more than most. So with that in mind I would have said buy it.

Until you mentioned the car seat. Just had a look at the completed listing. It's not new. You don't know it's history. Please consider buying another one. No matter how lovely the people seem you just can't be sure

well done!!!
as soon as i hit the 12 week scan i will start collecting things!
i've got friends that have unfortunately lost babies from 5 weeks preg to full term so do what you feel is right!!

YAY good for you!! Grin
I'm 10 weeks and have just started the mothercare babyplan so have all the nursery furniture on order. It won't arrive until the end of december so it won't be in the house but I feel better for doing it!!!

ToriaPumpkinPasty · 25/07/2011 20:25

Woo! Glad you went for it Grin I will admit to playing with mine a lot. I reasoned it was important to be able to do it so I don't look a complete tit the first time I take it out!
