We don't know. Not b/c we didn't want to find out, but b/c Lothians NHS will NOT tell you your child's gender and we didn't have £150 laying spare for a private scan.

I'm getting SO sick of an acquaintance of mine fecking insisting it's another girl. Not that I wouldn't mind another girl, but we do not know, ffs!

Yet this woman is constantly 'she' this and 'her' that and even has a ticker that counts down my having a girl 9 days from now - I'm 38 weeks on 4 December and gave birth to DD at 38 weeks+3 so who knows?!

She's driving me fecking mental.

Anyone got any good comebacks?

I haven't read all the threads, but in Berkshire they put a y or x in the corner of your scan...

I can't remember weather its x for a boy or girl though...

I'm sure someone else will know...

oh, yes, this gal is a medium.

rummum - chromosome pairings are XX in girls and XY in boys. (The biology A level did come in some use after all!) Sorry to be a smart arse!

rummum · 29/11/2005 23:07

So... expatinscotland... does your scan picture have a x or y in the corner at the top???

expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 09:38

It has no letters at all on top. I think they've caught onto that. It was also only a 13 week one. I had one at 23 weeks b/c of complications, and another last week, but I didn't get photos of those.

Normally, women in the Lothians only get one scan - at 13 weeks.

expat - I am pregnant in Glasgow and they did tell us the sex. No private scans - just teh NHS. I had a dating one at about 10 weeks, an abnormality scan at 20, then another couple at 36 and 37 weeks (coz baby was breech)

good luck with the birth BTW

expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 09:45

Must be certain parts they don't tell you, b/c one of my colleagues is from there and they refused to tell her. She just popped last weekend. It was a boy.

Lothians only gets one scan, at 13 weeks or thereabouts.

I know...lanarkshire dont tell either apparently. It makes me so mad, especially when you have a scan at 20 or 22 weeks. Its not like you can go out and get a termination then, personally i think its an urban myth - that if the wise and all knowing doctors tell all us stupid feckless women we will run out and get a termination at 22 weeks for trivial reasons

coz thats what we are like....right????

expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 09:56

It probably has something to do w/money.

Check this out! Now, if you're deemed 'middle class', your baby will NOT get routine health screens after 6 weeks in the Lothians - soon to spread to the rest of Scotland, apparently.

That's right, folks, pay the highest house prices and council taxes in the country, get jack s*&t in return!

the latest way to save money at childrens' expense

OMG expat. That's terrible.
How do they decide who's 'middle-class'? Is 'middle-class' a translation for 'immune to stress, worry, developmental problems, PND etc. etc.'?
Here in Germany we get a check at 3-10 days, 4-6 weeks, 3-4 months, 6-7 months and 10-12 months. Some might find it a bit much, but we have a great paediatrician and I've always been very reassured and glad to have them. And I'm as 'middle-class' (whatever that really means) as they come

sweetkitty · 30/11/2005 10:15

They don't tell in Lanarkshire apparently because someone tried to sue them as they bought all pink and it was a blue one. They always tell you it's not 100% and if your silly enough to spend all that money on pink things before the babies born and not kep the receipts then thats your choice.

They do tell you in Ayrshire but when DP and I went for our 20 week scan we were all excited at the prospect of finding out the sex asked the sonographer very nicely if it was possible could she tell us the sex and she was a right old cow she was like "only if baby is cooperating" at the end of the scan we asked if she had seen the sex she said "it looks female but I can't be sure" all nasty!!! We ended up paying for a private scan to be sure.

In London when I had DD they told us without hesitation.

and at that article expat - how so they catagorise a affulent area and a deprived area I wonder?

expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 10:16

Our daughter's developmental delays were first noticed at her 8 mos. checkup. We belong to a 'middle class' surgery b/c that's where my husband's family had been treated for 3 generations - he grew up round the corner - even though at the time we were living in one of the most deprived estates in all Edinburgh.

Guess middle class kids don't get things like autism, global developmental delay, ADHD, seizure disorders, etc. Like hte NHS24 is SO going to give you a referral to a paed to address your concerns.
