DIY nursery decorating ideas

So DH and I have just bought our first house (read flat) and by the end of the year we will be having our first baby. The place definately needs a bit of a once over... and I am quite keen on doing something fun with the nursery. Unfortunately after buying a place we are both relatively broke and I have few artistic or DIY skills - and was hoping someone could give me ideas that would be simple to execute and not too pricey.

Wow some of the nurseries in Ohdeedoh, look unbelievable. Thanks blue eyes and magicmelons. Now I am in competition mode... I want a nursery like those too.

The other thing I was thinking of was maybe doing a dual paint job - like one colour the bottom half of the room and another colour on the top half with a mid wall border. I have seen photos of that and they look good... assuming it isn't too hard!
Plus I could really like to get a big colourful rug. Any ideas where I could find one cheap?

I love those nurseries too - I can't tell you how many ideas I've pinched from that site!

It shouldn't be too hard to paint the wall as you describe. You'll need a spirit level and some masking tape, but any small mistakes can be covered by the border anyway.

I got a large colourful rug from Ikea - £25. I'm thinking of getting an identical one for when the current one gets past its best...

We also rent so love the idea for wall stickers - anyone got any good websites to get them from?

Have a look at this site for wall stickers etc, lovely stuff.

The decowall link put up by corky (previous page) was also really good. Plus... surely amazon would have some too!

browneyes I didn't even think of ikea for a rug... (despite the fact that I am buying closets etc from there to help furnish the rest of the house!) In fact it was looking at all the lovely rugs in Ohdee... that made me desperate for a rug :)

Posted than forgot all about it - damn pregnancy brain!
DS has these stickers in his room.
We moved house 2 years ago and peeled them off his old bedroom wall and stuck them in his new room.

ebay is great, but try gumtree for furniture. I had the ame dilemma and found ebay was pick up only whereas gumtree (although pick up) was all local!
