Your baby isn't hot enough to release the analgesic. If your baby was would you give it to them unmetered? As in would you uncap the calpol bottle hand it over and say have as much as you like?

It's crap with good marketing

RosyPony · 01/10/2017 09:45

The science behind them doesn't work, they don't work, they're a potential hazard yet people still buy them and claim they work. They don't.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 01/10/2017 10:06

I judge people who put them on their babies. I doubt they are a huge hazard but just for believing the pretend science.

DeltaWave · 01/10/2017 10:25

There's no evidence that they work. The supposed analgesic effect has not been demonstrated. There's no evidence that succinic acid can get from the beads into the body, and no evidence that succinic acid reduces pain.

This falls into the category of alternative therapies that some people swear by, but that have not been shown to actually do anything beyond placebo effect. That's not to say that they definitely don't work, just that there's no evidence that they do work.

For adults, I'd go with "whatever works for you", just like those copper or magnetic bands some people feel help with arthritis. However, I'd not be putting anything on my baby that could present either a choking hazard or a strangulation hazard - no matter how safe the manufacturers say they are. If someone is prepared to sell something by making claims that are not evidentially supported, how much can you really trust them if they say they're safe?

My brother and sister in law have used them on both of their girls for teething, although I think with the second they just got it because it looked cute on the first.

Bulldog123 · 05/10/2018 13:54

I don't see why little boys need to look "musculin" when there babies!? But every opinion to themselves! My baby boys is round his ankle and looks cute!

Meganc559 · 05/10/2018 14:13

Well my 2 sisters went through teething like it was nothing because of the beads.
We left them at home.once to go on holiday and molly did nothing but cry and had all her teething symptoms back.
I swear by them x

Be careful in what they're coated in!!! Lots of Amber is coated in nasty stuff... especially used in jewellery...

FoxgloveStar · 06/10/2018 05:17

Completely quackery. Don’t be a fool.

KateTTC123 · 06/10/2018 07:20

Why would anyone care if something is masculine on a baby boy? My ds wears pink regularly; if something is a nice piece of clothing he can wear it, doesn't matter what the colour is! Similarly if something is helpful with teething then why on earth should it be only for girls?? They are all just little people at this stage and shouldn't be gendered!

Zombie thread

Mum2one78 · 29/10/2018 21:02

They are not for chewing on nor recommended for small babies.
This site tells you all about the safety of them. Lots of dodgy elasticated stuff doing the rounds on Amazon and Ebay. Be careful...
