Ooh just marking my place for future reference. kri5ty I think we're due date buddies and you've scared me witless that I'm super unprepared! So far all we have is a pack of 3 bibs and bootie things that my dad's wife bought as a little congrats gift. eeeeeps!!

kri5ty · 11/07/2011 11:13

my DDs 6 so ive been waiting a long time to buy baby things again Smile ive spent the past few yrs forcing my obsession onto friends and family but now its OH getting the brunt of it the poor bugger Blush but i just love baby stuffs Grin im totally over prepared and still feel like things are missing i just cant help myself :)

babyonbord · 11/07/2011 12:12

i've been the same i have a ds who is 2 with my ex and he didn't have the income my dh does, his parents bought us loads of stuff from cheaper places like george and matalan and tk maxx or it was all second hand the only expensive thing i had was the pram my mum bought us (i wanted the nice expensive things i am a woman after all lol) so this time i've gone mad and pretty much wiped out our local mamas and papas store i don't even dare calculate how much i have spent so far and not even started the nursery yet. i'm due tommorrow and had everything bought by about 30 weeks but i'm still shopping now getting things that i perhaps don't really need but really want lol. It's so hard when you have a baby because there are so many nice things you want to buy and i never really know where to draw the line.

benne81 · 11/07/2011 13:14

Now I'm seriously panicking - I'm 29 weeks and only got the pram and cot (which hasn't been delivered yet). I'm really wary of buying loads of stuff I don't need/ wrong size etc. and so haven't really bought anything at all! oops!

AKMD · 11/07/2011 13:25

Don't panic! If you want an absolutely bare bones list, look at the BBC's guidance here. According to them, a baby is fine sleeping in a pram!

loveulotslikejellytots · 11/07/2011 13:27

I can beat all of you. I have nearly all the big stuff and we're not even pregnant! SIL is moving house and has given us, Dnieces cot, bags of unisex clothes and a bouncy chair. And our best friends recently converted their garage so needed to get rid of a lot of stuff so they gave us a moses basket and stand plus bedding, baby bath, steriliser, and bags of unisex clothes. I've also been offered her buggy once her youngest out grows it!

MissusTulip · 11/07/2011 17:40

Ooooh these lists are brill!!!!! Have been ticking off wot I've got so far and feel pretty reassured. Smile

kir5ty - I feel much the same about preparing, it's sooo exciting and it makes me feel connected to the baby (who I feel v impatient to meet, just another 15 weeks to go eeeeep!), but it dawned on me at the weekend that I better not get everything, as my family and friends will be pretty cross for denying them the gift opportunities! So have decided to hold off on smaller big things like a bouncer, sling / carrier (an ergo has been recommended to me), cot mobile, baby gym / playmat etc. Just have to content myself with getting nursery painted (next on job list!)

Granny and great-granny are a-knitting away already (but then my gran has gone from one great grandchild last year to six by the time 2011 ends, so the knitting pile of matinee jackets and blankets needs endless replenishing!)

ksaunders · 11/07/2011 18:29

I think you've probably got it all now lol! Just to add I was advised that babies should be bathed in plain water at first so shampoo and bath stuff can wait. My first was born in summer but midwife still said to put hat on him and the scratch mitts were important as baby born with long sharp talons!

kri5ty · 13/07/2011 07:49

Thanks for all your advice girlies... i now have it all written down haha

Although i do have one more teeny weeny question...

pople have bought me short sleeved baby grows, New born and 0-3... can i use these as vests under sleepsuits, or would the short sleeves just scrunch up?

If not will take them back to asda and exchange for something else haha x

OP posts:
Pussinglads · 13/07/2011 07:52

Yep, they'll work fine as vests :)

kri5ty · 13/07/2011 10:08
