silly question from 2nd timer. Am 37wks on fri and have been told baby is engaged 4/5 following a scan yesterday to check not breech. So is that very much engaged or a little engaged? With my son I was always told i was engaged then i wasnt etc until labour when they said his head was right there [was induced]

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

it's almost totally engaged i think. but second ones can pop back out if they feel like it....

starlover · 23/11/2005 21:38

i thought it was a little engaged... i thought it was how much the midwife could feel? so if she can feel 4/5 then it isn't very engaged?

Nemo1977 · 23/11/2005 21:38

thanks HC..i knew all this last time around and only 2yrs on I cant remeber..lol

could be either according to this

hoxtonchick · 23/11/2005 21:46

look, i'm wrong!

Stockinghanger · 23/11/2005 21:49

It seems it depends how your midwife sees it. She could have felt 4/5 therefore baby is only 1/5 down. Or she could have felt 1/5 so baby is 4/5 down - all very confusing. Whe I'm qualified I will make sure I tell the patient what I mean

Nemo1977 · 23/11/2005 21:49

lol am soo confused...

You need to ask your MW I think. Ask her what she meant Not much help I know

Nemo1977 · 23/11/2005 21:52

What if it was done from the scan? She didnt feel at all but did a scan as baby was thought to be breech and just said baby is 4.5ths engaged and has put same in my notes with as seen on scan.

Happymum - you have a point! If baby is 4/5 down, you will be walking like a duck and quite uncomfortable

I think if the midwife said baby is 4/5 engaged I think she means baby is well and truely down and ready.

Nemo1977 · 23/11/2005 21:55

SH i know the baby has dropped significantly the last week as I can breath a bit better but with DS he never engaged properly until i was in labour. Alreayd have the funny walk thanks to spd..lol

I think your baby is right down then. You would deffo feel better up top if baby is well down, so it won't be long

Nemo1977 · 23/11/2005 21:59

no no noooooooo...lol honestly I want baby to stay put until the 15th. Am getting new couches next week..lol DS was 15days over so is it really likely this one will be early?

All babies and all pregnancies are different Nemo! Who knows! I was induced with my first at 12 days overdue, second started on his own at 2 days over, so you'd think third would have started naturally- but no! Was induced again at 12 day over So, al though you would expect to go over again, you can't assume you will.

Stockinghanger · 23/11/2005 22:07

But at the end of the day, if baby wants to come earlier than your induction date, nothing will stop him/her!! not even a cork!!

Nemo1977 · 23/11/2005 22:08

ooo cork good thinking..lol

now have visions of a waddling, heavily PG lady walking round with a huge big comedy cork poking out from under her skirt!! lol

eidsvold · 24/11/2005 02:33

from memory the 4 means you still have 4/5ths to go - my GP here in Aus said I was 2/5ths - meaning I still had 2/5ths to go - mind you - dd2 then dived right back up and stayed there until I had her by c-section. May be different with your midwife.
