HELP! 36 wks no sleep for terrible hip pain

Can anyone help? I'm 36 weeks and getting virtually no sleep for terrible pains in my hips as soon as I lay down. I have tried all the usual - pillows in all sorts of places and a warm bath before bed but nothing seems to work. I'm absolutely shattered and need to get a few decent nights sleep before the new arrival.

Any ideas/suggestions would be very gratefully welcolmed.

I know you said you'd tried pillows in all sorts of places but have you tried one of those V shaped maternity pillows? I've just been lent one and I'm so much more comfortable in bed now. I rest my bump on one side and the rest goes between my legs, I feel lovely and supported! Maybe it's because it's made for the job? Also a lot less faffing than positioning ordinary pillows before you attempt to settle to sleep.

going potty - I have sacro-iliac pain dodgy joints in hips and tailbone and getting to sleep comfy is a nightmare. Would echo the other posters with the v shaped pillow. Also sitting on an exercise ball seems to help me too. My pain radiates down my hips so it feels like they are coming out their sockets.

hi, sounds to me like you may have spd.
which does cause alot of pain in the hips when you lie down. does it hurt when you try to turn over aswell.

this happened to me only it was my back hurting, getting worse from week 30. dd was 11 days early thank God - I remember feeling such enormous relief when my waters broke...before I realised that although this was the end of the back pain, it was the beginning of something far more scary! had the best night sleep after she was born.... so something to look forward to there.
the only way i got through it was by sleeping for short periods during the day sitting up on the sofa. it really was a case of having to grin and bear it. hope that yours is treatable...

I spent the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy sleeping on sofa in a semi upright position and numerous cushions.Good luck.

I have this goingpotty. Go to an osteopath who specialises in pregnant women - it will help believe me. Also do some gentle yoga exercises, at home is okay. Just relax and don´t strain in the positions.

Also use a pelvis high surface - bend one leg and place it on the table/surface so that the leg/ankle crosses in front of the leg you are standing upon. Do both sides about 1 minute.

Believe, self help and exercise can help relieve ALOT of your pain. I use a hot water bottle on my hip too which brings relief.

I have gone from being in alot of pain like you to it now only a minor niggle.

Thank you so much everyone for all your suggestions. It's good to know that I'm not the only one (if you know what I mean)!!
Will try and book an appointment with Osteo and try all other tips too. Lets just pray for an early delivery
