Migraines?

Is anyone else out there suffering with migraines for the first time during pregnancy? I am 36 wks pregnant with my first baby and at 35 weeks started having headaches with visual disturbances and on one occasion, difficulty speaking. The hospital ruled out pre-eclampsia and say I am having migraines. However, I have never suffered from migraines before and am finding it a little scary to say the least, especially the funny vision and difficulty getting words out! Would be good to hear other people have been through the same thing :-)

I went through the same, 514. The doc went mad with all sorts of tests for pre-eclampsia but fortunately it wasn't that. They stopped after ds was born. How's your blood pressure? Getting enough sleep? Are you stressed? Try not to worry!

i had them during pg, but had already been a sufferer.
did the hospital give you anything for them? My GP said that migraleve was safe to take during pg, although they weren't that effective when i had my worst ones

I had them during ist preg and has hadn't had them for 10 yrs got them checked out and turned out to be pre-eclampsia. In your case could just be a slightly high blood pressure, or stress, tiredness.

Hi 514 - I have migraines all the time but am having them more often now I'm pg again. I can tell when one os coming because I get the visual disturbance and problems getting words out followed sometimes by sort of losing the feeling in one arm. Apparently they are common in pregnancy - not that it makes them any easier to cope with.
I was told not to take any migraleve or migraine medications in pregnancy so I'm not sure which is right on that one!
As well as stress and tiredness they can also be brought on by dehydration so make sure you drink lots of water.

Thanks everyone for your input. I was feeling very low and scared but its good to know others have been through the same and I'm not alone. I have been drinking lots of water and have ordered myself a relaxation CD so I can try and chill out and stop stressing about the birth!!! Thanks again you have helped to cheer me up and reassure me no end :-)

if you're getting them a lot try keeping a food diary as well...
common trigger foods are salami, pepperoni, cheese, chocolate (and some others i can't remember!)
