Is it true that if you already have two of one, you have a statistically very high chance of having a third of the same. If it is true, why? Any scientific person know?

Mine were the other way round - DS1 in particular really wanted it to be a girl - he soon got over it though. Thankfully.

GhostofNatt · 22/11/2005 17:44

Ah, no mine seem to want a boy army, DS1 wants twenty brothers all named after him. Possibly that is a bit spooky...

Boys? Me? How can you tell, Collision?

SoupDragon · 22/11/2005 18:59

GoN - probably best your DS doesn't get into "cloning research" as a career choice...

Charleesawmummykissingsanta · 22/11/2005 19:20

MIL had 2 boys then a girl,
a friend of ours had 2 boys then a girl,

im still pretty sure its unknown why you get the sex you do however saying that i have corectly poedicted my 3 neices and my ds's sex even though i was told on the scans he was a girl untill i was 38 weeks pg!

Rachey1969 · 22/11/2005 19:23

Well I had two boys and then a girl - statistically surely your chances are 50:50 every time (because you always start from scratch) - I can't really explain this but the boy in 'curious incident of the dog in the night time' does it really well!

but Rachey, that's the question isn't it? That maybe it's not just like throwing a dice - some people might be more prone to having boys than girls or vice versa.

wish some scientific person could tell us...

motherinferior · 22/11/2005 20:33

Bring forth men children only, Lady Macbeth.

Enid · 22/11/2005 20:35

try having two girls and a dh who is desperate for a boy

GhostofNatt · 23/11/2005 10:12

Come on scientist type person help us out! I thought DP wasn't fussed about what gender we got, Enid, then after the scan he was talking wistfully about a little girl he'd been chatting to and maybe a fourth child wouldn't be so bad...

My gran had two boys and then two girls. Then a surprise boy much later.

Her first had been a girl, but both the child and her father died of disease years before she remarried and went on to have 5 more kids.

Helen38 · 23/11/2005 12:10

I have two boys already and don't know what am having this time but will be surprised if is a girl.
Why does everyone expect me to be hoping for a girl? it drives me mad, I am quite happy with my boys, not sure I'd know what to do with a girl!

allyco · 23/11/2005 16:30

and I have four DDs and expecting no. 5. Not sure I'll know what to do if it's a boy!!

muppety · 24/11/2005 20:00

There are a lot of ways to supposedly try and sway gender. Presumably if they actually work then that explains it. Most peoples diet/lifestyle/favourite sexual position etc probably tends to stay the same.

I will try and swing the odds if we have a third. Its a bit of fun and would be happy with another boy. DH has resigned himself to hot baths and tight pants for the time being though!
