i think i want one of these because they seem safer to me but i was wondering once the base is fitted can you move it onto other seats or have someone sit on that seat, where the base was fitted?i don't really know how it all works!!!

what sorty of base? you have the ISOFIX ones which can be used on any car that has ISOFIX anchoring points, and then then i think there is surefix bases or something which are fixed with a seatbelt and can be moved.

lulabelle, it's really easy - honest!! i'm rubbish at this kind of thing, but could do it no bother. get your dh to show you - you never know when you'll need it (this from the woman who didn't know how to fix the next stage up car seat for about 6 months - way harder!!).

We have the Primo Viaggio and tbh I'm not that keen on it - never seems particularly secure to me, and at 8mths, dd2 seems really squashed into it (she's only on the 25th centile so not a big baby).

We also have a Mothercare one (without a fixed base) which we had before we bought the M&P travel system and it's much nicer actually - seems to offer more protection and seems more comfy.

right i have found out surefix bases are fitted with a seat belt and can be moved from seat to seat but how are the isofix ones fitted?

They are bolted to isofix anchor points built into certain makes/models of car

The britax website has a seat compatibility list. Type in your make and model of car and it tells you if the seat is compatible.

tweeni · 22/11/2005 14:55

but how do you get to the anchorage points on the seat in the car?i can't really envisage it.i havent a clue where they are!i have a renault grand scenic.

On our older Scenic there is a velcro panel which comes off but on newer Renaults think you have to break through the fabric itself. The fixings are roughly where the base meets the set back.

tweeni · 22/11/2005 14:59

so they are inside the seat material?i assumed they would be underneath the seat on a metal base or soemthing. a bit like the bit you see when can fold the seat down.

Think they are behind the upholstery - very odd of them to do that when on previous models it was much more straightforward. Someone on MN had similar problems on their Laguna. If you pop into your dealer I'm sure they'd show you.

tweeni · 22/11/2005 15:47

think you can get latches so you don't have to break into the material
