During my first pregnancy, I did have a glass of red wine once or twice a week, and a bit more when we went on holiday. Towards the end of pregnancy, I developed pre-eclampsia, and then as a complication of this had HELLP syndrome, which affects the liver. As a result, DS was born at 32 weeks. Now I don't know if the two were linked, but I always told myself if I was ever pregnant again, I wouldn't touch a drop. So when I fell pregnant with DD, I stopped drinking as soon as I knew.
Because I always knew this is what I intened to do, I did not find it too difficult, but there were times I was tempted. On the plus side, I didn't put on any weight while pregnant, so dropped 10kg as soon as I had her, though this was not all down to not drinking. And since then, I am much less tolerant to alcohol, and am finding myself drinking a lot less, so all good.
As long as you do not feel pressured either way, and are sure of the risks and benefits, I am sure that having the odd unit of alcohol occassionally is fine, but I am very happy with the desicion I made - but thats not to say I don't still enjoy the odd glass (or two) of wine at the weekend
now I'm not pregnant!
