Can I do anything about this whole body itching?

31 weeks pregnancy, had some itching in first pregnancy but this time it's something else. All over the body and constant. Bicarb baths, calamine etc and plain lotion not helping.

I have heard of taking benadryl and will speak to midwife, but in the meatime, anything that has helped you?

Have they taken a liver function and full blood count? This is essential to detect complications of pe.

Are you a obstetrician or midwife, Jolene?

No, just a mum who had severe pre eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. My liver was failing but because my midwife didn't recognise the symptoms and get those tests done I'm lucky that my son and I are still around.

Ah, just you sound knowledgeable. Very glad to hear you and your son made it unscathed.

I should say I don't have preeclampsia. I am predisposed to it having had it suddenly (and severely) late on with my first -- I had her abroad.

I have been seen frequently and between 28 weeks and 32 weeks there was a concern that growth was slowing, but subsequent scans

My blood pressure has remained on the low side of normal throughout this pregnancy. My 24 hour urine and blood tests for pe have come back normal throughout. Not to say I won't develop it from 34 + weeks.

I think I've had about 4 full blood counts and liver function tests. And when I went to MUA last week had specific cholestasis tests (liver function and bile salts) and all was clear.

Still itching though but it was super hot yesterday which always makes me itch.

No other cholestasis symptoms.

But see a midwife on Weds and will ask for more bloods to be taken.

Thanks for the heads up. I realised that liver failure can be a complication of pe.

Should add I'm at Kings in London and I have been impressed so far with their thoroughness and professionalism (having been spoiled first time around by weekly visits to one of Asia's best ob/gyns)
