prefer Mackensie alot more.
very cute shortened to Mac and good for an adult too.

mackensie by a mile.

goosey · 19/11/2005 12:04

Reuben - that's my ds'name. Lots of people comment how much they like it and he loves it too.

Pinotmum · 19/11/2005 12:06

Ellis, Reuben then Nolan.

Colin? Is that a typo?

collision · 19/11/2005 12:14

Colin?

i would go for Ellis
Reuben
but not Nolan! Sorry but I cannot imagine a child called Nolan and it reminds me of Noel Edmunds! When I think of names I think of the stages of a childs life, as a baby, toddler, 6 yr old, etc and Nolan just doesnt seem to work for me.

Just my opinion and I dont mean to offend.

zippitippitoes · 19/11/2005 12:24

Nolan sisters

Reuben, but I would be inclined to assume a Jewish connection

Ellis makes me think of death row

Mackenzie I prefer..sorry

saadia · 19/11/2005 12:38

Gosh didn't realise Colin would be so unpopular. Do people think it sounds old-fashioned?

Pinotmum · 19/11/2005 12:50

Saadia, I put the ? because the other names in your list were quite modern and I haven't heard anyone mention Colin (unless an adult) for ages. I thought you may have meant Colm (pronounced Colum) or Callum. Didn't mean to offend you or anyone with a little Colin

weesaidie · 19/11/2005 12:50

I was going to call my dd MacKenzie... great name!

From those choices, Reuben

collision · 19/11/2005 17:07

Personally, I think Colin is awful. Am really sorry but little baby...Colin! No.

i think, as well, I have only known awful Colins and they were idiots so that doesnt help. It also makes me think of men with comb overs for some reason!! Sorry.

saadia · 19/11/2005 17:23

lol at your opposition to Colin collision. I can see what you mean, am now picturing oldies with comb-overs.

collision · 19/11/2005 17:41

Glad you arent offended Saadia!!

Bibiboo · 19/11/2005 17:42

My vote goes for

Reuben love it!

janeybops · 19/11/2005 17:47

not5 sure I like any of them much. I have known an Ellis and a Mackenzie and they were both very naughty - so put me off. The other two sound a bit girly to me. Sorry.

Ellis for a girl, Reuben for a boy. Sorry don't like Nolan for either.

anchovies · 20/11/2005 20:00

Thanks for all these, cheated a little bit as ds1 is actually called Mackenzie (was also dhs fave)and he wanted to gauge whether it was all his names that no one liked or just Nolan! Glad to have confirmed that it is just Nolan and nobody at all likes it other than him!

Dh isn't sure about Ellis as he thinks it is a bit girly and I'm not sure about the RC (arsey) initials (good spot cupcakes!)

So any other ideas?

I like Nolan best. Really don't like Reuben or MacKenzie as a forename... MacCauley (that twerp in the Christmas movies), would that name be ok? I thought it meant something like King in Irish....

zebratwizzler · 20/11/2005 21:36

Assuming I have guessed your surname correctly (is it a type of apple?) I knew a Russell & a Patrick with that surname, too; I thought they worked ok.

BonyM · 20/11/2005 21:46

Tbh, not very keen on any of them, but would choose Ellis over the others.

My cousin's eldest is Nolan - nice boy but I've never liked the name!

Twiglett · 20/11/2005 21:47

Ellis is my Father's name .. he's 85 .. can't believe its getting so popular now .. he was the only bloke I'd ever heard of with that name up till a few years ago

I also like Reuben

don't like nolan though .. reminds me of the sisters .. I am that old

Twiglett · 20/11/2005 21:50

my father was a major in WWII .. he would be shocked that anyone would think he had a girly name

I will tell him too
