I was ten wks and abit. not sure what youre describing is what you think.....more like usual manic 'insides' noise..but time will tell and before you know it you'll hear it wonderfully!

The whoosing sound is the placenta.

I am 16 weeks still cant hear it all strongly but they can at my scans.

I used one twice a day from about 13 weeks for both of mine - have passed it onto to friends who do the same. Takes practise to identify it but once you have, it is brilliant and easy to find most of the time.
You will hear a lot of gurgles, whooshes and other noises. Most will be digestive noises from you, when the baby is much bigger you will hear more obvious whooshes - often regular - and this will be the placenta. Personally I think it a little more likely at 9 weeks for yours to be your own body noises.
At this stage you are likely to find your own heartbeat quickly - you can always check whose it is by timing it. The baby?s hb will be roughly twice as fast as your own so if not sure check your wrist pulse.I often thought I had found the baby only to realise my own pulse was racing in excitement or occasionally anxiety!
At around 12 weeks try using it fairly centrally and quite low down - 4? inches below tummy button as a starting point and then slowly work around. Remember they are unidirectional so try gently tilting and rolling the top to pick up from different angles.
Once you have found it for sure you will be in no doubt what it is and will find it easier to do. I found Dh was better than me as he could see better! We got to the stage where within 5 seconds DH had located it easily.
Be prepared for it to fade and come back again as well - this worried me like mad until someone explained that the baby moves (durr!) and so the signal strength will move too. Only if definite hb located and it is very irregular or racing wildly/dipping etc should you be concerned.
By about 18 weeks you should be good enough to interpret kicks and movement sounds - still way too early IMHO.
Dopples are great fun and have no effect on the baby at all - they don?t even know you are listening in - so hope you enjoy it once you find the hb in a few weeks xx

I heard my baby's at 9 weeks confirmed by MW.

It was a lot lower down than I had thought it would be. Much lower under the pelvic bone.

i heard the heartbeat the other day at 9.3 weeks it was a complete fluke as i wasn't looking for it. i am hearing it everyday now but baby moves away so quick once i have found him, you'd think he knows im spying on him;)
i have heard it's easier to hear baby earlier when its not your first pg as the uterus rises out of the pelvis earlier.
