A new thread needed here already! Lovely Grumblin who started the second one, may be actually having that baby at this minute!

I hope this will be a source of support for present sufferers and ex sufferers alike and also worried family members.

I want particularly to mention my favourite feline FluffyWhiteKittens, who has been so invaluable a source of support on the old threads, and MOH, who has slaved to produce articles full of useful information and links to useful websites, LaTrucha, lovely CaramelloKoalaLover, Grumblin, NitNat, La, Lottie, Grandmagain, MaryLou, Cocoanuts and so many that I cannot name everyone for fear that the current sufferer may became annoyed at the long list...

Never worry about tmi or moaning. When suffering one has to discuss things that would make most people go weak at the knees and to have a good moan can help enormously with an illness where there is still a lot of ignorance and sometimes insensitive treatment.

It might help to remember - when you are at your worst - the words in that Eastern story.
'This Too Shall Pass.'

How is Everyone? Mother hen quite concerned at the absence of all. Not, I hope, hospitalised/totally demoralised/in the loo?
Very quiet on here...

Hi Lucinda, hope your trip to Nottingham went well? Yes, it is very quiet on here isn't it? I'm doing OK today so far. I work mainly from home but have quite a lot to do before I go on maternity leave at the end of October, so trying hard to focus on that at the times when I feel better, but still pop on here most days to see how everyone is. I guess ElliotsMummy is on the final countdown now, just a couple of weeks to go as far as I remember.
Sickness not too bad the last few days but have a case of conjunctivitis, which has now spread from my left eye to the right one too! Have some drops and an antibiotic cream, but what with the eyes, and the continuing sickness, and the cavity in my tooth last week I'm starting to feel I'm falling apart a bit. My usually robust health has completely given way it seems!

MOH100 · 12/09/2011 12:25

Hi all, I've been on holiday, looks like it's the season given the lack of recent posts. Why does a holiday with a toddler end up more tiring than normal life even though your partner is with you all the time? Anyway, at least I'm not pregnant so I can't moan.

cosmo am i too late to advise about ondansetron? My advice on this will be boringly familiar to all but newbies, it's always the same - get ondansetron. You could give the other drugs a go to see if they work, but if you don't improve much, get ondansetron, if you respond to it, it's wonderful stuff. Try to resist fobbing off, they might try to as it's more expensive than the other meds, but women in the UK do get prescribed it without a fuss. There was a recent safety study that showed that it does not lead to a statistically significant increase in birth defects. If you're interested I can send you this if you PM me.

LucindaE · 12/09/2011 12:29

Pearl Sad that sounds dismal, conjuntivitis is really painful, and does tend to spread and seems to be connected with one's immune system getting a hammering. Grumblin had it throughout, and it seemed to cause other problems which added to the misery.
Working from home is more bearable than having to travel (agh) but not easy either.
My aunt had lovely home grown produce, but I won't talk about food, that would be mean...
Cyber hugs.

Hi all, hope everyone is doing ok today

MOP yes I'm on that countdown - 2 weeks yesterday! Baby still seems pretty snug in there so don't think I'm gona get an early surprise! Part of me is wishing it would, just to get rid of the horrible taste in my mouth that I've had since about February!! And to be able to eat and drink the things that have been off the menu all this time!!

I know when I posted first about having low platelets nobody as sure what they were but I am glad to report mine have shot back up into the normal range (with help from pregnacare plus omega 3 vitamins I think!) - it can cause a problem with blood clotting apparently which can be really dangerous in labour and if you need a CS (had one last time) so glad things have righted themselves in time!!

How are you doing Coconuts , any signs you might beat me to it??? :)

theonlyhb2 · 12/09/2011 19:41

coconuts and Elliots not long now! We need a new list up i shall try and remember next time lappy gets turned on.
Schrod (sorry i Cant see proper spelling!) the only good thing about HG is knowing labour is a doddle compared to 9 months of hell. Also a baby is easier to deal with. Less puke and more sleep :)

i Cant believe Harper is 5weeks Wednesday! 1st health visitor check tomoro. No one told them i gave birth. I hear this all the time! They seemed surprised i only called them to see when they coming because my friend told me they should have been in contact by now and not cos i had any issues and been coping ok. Everyone blames someone else. I don't really care, had enough interfering in hospital!

Anyway just saying hi and can i suggest jelly for breakfast? Was only thing that helped first thing when water too wet and food too solid to cope with. If jelly stayed down after inevitable bile run then anti sickness tablet and a bit of toast should. If it reappears then i wont attempt toast and at least its easy to bring up and tastes nice :)

Cosmogirl · 12/09/2011 20:55

Hi ladies,

MOH - thanks for the advice re: Ondansetron. I have made a GP appt for next week. I bet she doesn't even know what HG is...Oh well, I'll see how I get on but the aim is to get a referral to an OB experienced in HG so I can get a protocol put together.

I must admit having only taken Maxalon for one week in my preg I am a bit worried about meds but I have my daughter to care for this time and I need to be as functional as possible & can't let things get like they did first time around.

I know what you mean re: toddler and holiday! Have a 2 and a half year old & we are off on our first abroad trip for three nights next week! I'm sure it'll be far from relaxing.

Lucinda - thanks for answering my question re daughter's age. I think I am decided I am gonna go for it. I am gonna try to read less stories of people who have HG as I think it is scaring me and will ultimately put me off if I don't get my head away from expecting severe HG, when I know my first round was far from a severe case.

Nooby - I am so pleased you are feeling better and it gives me hope that each pregnancy is different. I hope things continue to go well.

Theonlyhb2 - jelly tip is good! I will remember that one but hope I don't need it! Congrats on your baby's birth. I second your thoughts on birth seeming easier in comparison to pregnancy. I have fluffy memories of the birth though of course it bloody hurt!

ElliottsMummy - yay for two weeks to go!! That must feel great.

LucindaE · 13/09/2011 12:32

We have several people about to join the Pink Castle.
Pearl How are things chugging along?
Cosmo I am so glad you are going for it, and I do hope this time you escape it. MaryLou didn't suffer anything like as much as she had expected, she wanted to conceive, did so by accident, suffered, and I think still has that dreaded bile run Shock but it isn't as bad as she had feared. Anyway, feel free to to say, 'You encouraged me...' I remember Fluffy feeling rather that she wished she hadn't gone for it again when at her worst, but she is purring now for sure...
ElliotsMum I have illegible scribbling by way of a note for you, how absurd, and Schrod too...
Waves legibly to all...

Hello everyone!

Hope you had a lovely time in Nottingham Lucinda

Instead of coming on here to rant about how crap I feel I thought I'd share some good news today! I've only had two days of sickness in the last week Grin . I'm not expecting it to last long but definitely making the most of it by decorating the spare room before we order nursery furniture for the baby's room!

Hope there isn't anybody suffering too much out there x

LucindaE · 13/09/2011 18:09

Louby Not sure how far along you are now? This might - touch wood - be the turning point...[Looks about nervously face]. I was wondering how you are. How about awful manager? I know you had an interview when feeling awful. Tell us all...

Louby, so glad to hear you're feeling better - it must be such a relief to be able to get things done, but don't do too much at once or you may well set yourself back.

Lucinda, chugging along about sums it up really. Conjunctivitis seems to be clearing up and I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow, so feeling very glad that 'only' 9 weeks to go and only 7 weeks to go of work. Starting to see a faint light at the end of the tunnel :)

LucindaE · 14/09/2011 16:17

Pearl Did you have conjunctivitis for days, how horrible?! Nine weeks, yippee...

Hi everyone,
Sorry for absence, no excuse other that I'm a bit rubbish!

Thank you for the PM which I'm posting here too:

Thank you for the PM so sweet of you to think of me! Sorry I've been way from the thread for so long, I discovered AIBU & Chat and seem to have lost a good few hours on that recently...

Apart from that, all seems to be going really well. The sickness seems to be continuing to ease and I'm now only vomiting once a week! I'm still on the Cyclizine but I've managed to drop down to two pills a day now. The nausea is still pretty intense at times but I've been able to get out of bed for the last week and even went into town today by myself for the first time since the morning sickness started!
I've started feeling the baby move a little now and am getting a small bump now. People are even giving me their seats on buses now!

How are you all?
Thank you so much for checking in, very sweet of you!

Louby I think you are about the same stage as me so hopefully you are turning the corner now - so good to hear you are doing much better. How are things going with awful boss?

Cosmo So great to hear you are going for it again!

Good luck to coconuts and Elliots - not long now! Looking forward to hearing your lovely news soon.

Hope that you are all having lovely holidays and fingers crossed you are doing a bit better soon.

louby86 · 14/09/2011 20:34

Hello everyone, finally on a computer instead of my phone so I can catch up properly.

Good luck to Elliots and Coconuts can't wait to hear your announcements.

MotherofPearl Hope you're feeling a bit better now and your conjunctivitis has cleared up. That light at the end of the tunnel is going to get a bit brighter each day now Smile

mummymccar glad to see the sickness is easing for you too, hopefully we're beginning to turn the corner now, fingers crossed.

Lucinda I'm almost 18 weeks now so I'm on my countdown to my 20 week scan on October 3rd!

Hello to everyone else that I haven't mentioned. Hope you are all keeping well and sorry for such a long post!

Re: my horrible boss, I had a phone call yesterday to say that he would be interviewed towards the end of next week after he hs returned from annual leave. I'm still not allowed in my original place of work so my GP has signed me off with work related stress to add to my case against him. It's been nice to have such a supportive GP, both with this and my HG. I've made it clear I'll be taking it further if I don't get the resolution that I am after. I've also got an interview sort of thing (hopefully) in December before I start my maternity leave for a job share in a different area, so hopefully I'll be able to go back to work 3 days a week and never see the horrible, horrible man ever again!

LucindaE · 15/09/2011 10:17

MummyMcCar Really happy to have your nice message with news of improvement and baby becoming active, though most women would think that was suffering badly Confused.
Louby Wonderful if you never see the man again, his attitude was barbaric. I hope the Karma catches up with him and he suffers from it in a future life as a womanAngry.

Hi everyone. Hope everyone is okay. I've been enjoying my relatively vom free existance that the brilliant ondanestron is helping me with! God its a life saver. Still sick most evenings but its only once and I can now almost hold a conversation and be sick at same time! Getting good at this! I'm nearly 14 weeks now. Question- the ondanestron has a known side effect of constipation. I dont have any pain from it or discomfort but literally i'll go maybe once or twice a week and nothing much happens. I'm now so bloated its awful and my stomach is very hard. Any suggestions as to what will help given i'm still sensitive to anything other than bland food? I do eat porridge and a bit of fruit- but no movement!x

feekerry · 16/09/2011 07:37

Hello everyone. Hope everyone is okay. I'm enjoying the virtually vom free life that the amazing ondanestron has given me. Still sick once every evening but I can cope with that. Apart from that i'm pretty much leading a normal life. I'm nearly 14 weeks now. Question- the ondanestron has a known side effect of constipation and I read many women get this anyway in pregnancy so I have it twice as bad! It never causes me any pain or discomfort but I barely manage to go once a week and even then nothing much happens! My stomach has now become super bloated and very hard so wondering what I can do to help matters baring in mind I am still sensitive to alot of food and drink due to the hg. Any suggestions? Started eating porridge every day to no avail!x

louby86 · 16/09/2011 10:28

Hello everyone!

Glad you're starting to feel better feekerry Not sure about constipation to be honest, not had it myself yet but that may be more to do with the fact that when I can eat without feeling sick I crave pickled jalepenos Blush

My one vom a week was short-lived! I'm on 3 for this week now Sad Think it's the stress of going back to work next week. Hopefully will see my doctor Monday though and see what he says. I don't know if anyone else has this or whether I should mention it to the doctor but (tmi alert for those feeling poorly!) if I'm sick a lot now it's almost as if the retching upsets everything and I end up with an upset stomach pretty much straight after. Is this normal? And no, I haven't had jalepenos recently Blush

LucindaE · 16/09/2011 10:34

Feekerry SmileI was hoping you were OK, so glad things have got a lot better.
I have heard that Fybogel (sp) is the thing, but I have to say it made me want to heave even when I was over Hyperemesis...Lots of water you know about, I tried bran on bran on porridge (I think I must have got it from a health food shop). There's a cereal called AlBran, too, can't stand it as a cereal but I think you can add it to home made little fairy cakes? Liqouice or coconut or plain chocolate? Oranges...

feekerry glycerine suppositories, you get them from boots, i swear they work in 5 minutes! i couldn't cope with eating kiwi's with skins on, downing lots of water and OJ....just stick something up your bum and be close to the toilet is the way forward :)

louby when my HG was at its worst I too craved Jalapeño peppers, kept ordering ham, pineapple and jalapeño pizza's or making sure i have pineapple and jalapeño in burgers. i quite often craved spicy food too, which was not fun in later stages with heartburn (but ranitidine and gaviscon helped that). i wonder if yur stomach is a sign of stress too? quite often people get a dodgy belly when stressed, and I think it links that you sick when stressed cos of work.....

someone we know is pregnant and every 5 mins on fb moans about feeling sick....really having to bite my tongue and not comment! she has no idea.....

Magnumwhite · 16/09/2011 13:47

Hi all,
been lurking here a while but haven't posted so far.... you all sound a lovely supportive bunch :-)
Had hyperemesis with first pregnancy and swore I would never do it again after that. Had every antiemetic going bar Ondansetron but nothing helped orally (maybe cyclizine and metocloramide iv/im when in hospital but that's not sustainable at home is it!)
Then i got broody again.... was determined that i would not ttc without a guarentee that I could have ondansetron if things were bad again. I didn't think this was possible on the NHS.

but it is! I had pre natal counselling with a consultant before ttc.
She liased with my Gp to recommend Ondansetron this time if needed.

I've been taking it since week 8 as nothing else worked again this time. For some reason have been more anxious about taking it than all the other meds i had last time.....but just back from 12 week scan...and all is good so far. Yay

it has been wonderful for me - nothing obliterates the nausea totally, but it has made me alot more functional....and yes constipated...but I echo the recommendation for Glycerol suppositories :-)

louby86 · 16/09/2011 13:54

Hello Magnumwhite and congratulations!

feekerry · 16/09/2011 15:41

Okay thank you ladies. Up the bum things it is then! How glamorous is pregnancy! I'm so glad people are getting ondanestron. It really has changed my life. Nothing will ever take away the sickness totally but its a major help!x

LucindaE · 16/09/2011 16:47

MagnumGrinWonderful, nice to meet you, I am so glad too that Ondan (sp) is being prescribed, am I right in thiking it's called Zofran over in the US and routinely prescribed on Medicare, etc, because expensive?
TheOnly Feekerry I never heard of those - they must be 'stool softeners'!
Excellent idea, you won't have to suffer with Fybrogel then...
