Did anyone else read this? Says you increase the risk 4 fold :S

I am really struggling to sleep - on any side (33 weeks), I spend most of the night tossing and turning and to and fro to the loo. But I find myself waking up on my back most mornings (before I was pregnant I could never sleep on my back) now I find I can't sleep on my sides as baby just doesnt seem to like it, she kicks like crazy as though she is squashed.

Now not only can I not fall asleep, or stay asleep, but im worried that if i do manage to get to sleep im going to be on my back.... as I right this im practically falling asleep at my desk :(

Er , yes when I had my first 16 years ago - gulp - I knew of advice to sleep on my right side. I even swapped sides with my husband because of it so I am sure it happened...I did find it easier to sleep a bit more and I was very big (5'1" and my babies were 8lb 5oz and 8lb 10oz!) It is a prob. sleeping in the late stages - always was and always will be - but it doesn't last long and later one's sleep is interrupted in a rather different way! But that too passes and... etc etc

Listening to one's body and doing what feels right is surely a sound rule (the exception to this is of course addictions!). The thing about data like this is that one factor is isolated and the wider context omitted. Compare today's news about watching telly and early death - it is probably lack of exercise, obesity through continual snacking that long hours of TV viewing contribute to rather than watching TV itself. And of course statistical correlations can be spurious unless a testable rationalisation is put forward. (e.g there could be a correlation between the numbers of starlings each year and the consumption of Cornflakes but, heck, are the two related?)

Oh don't say that all4you, I watch tv all day! I'm usually very healthy but have placenta previa and am not allowed to do much! I do potter but not like I used to, spd makes sure of that! And I sleep on my back just as much as both my sides! I'm 32 1/2 weeks! Eek!!
