Agonising stabbing pain in nipple.

I've been getting pains in my nipple all day that come and go, it feels like having a hot skewer stabbed in the end of my nipple. It's so bad I've been screaming.

I had read somewhere that it means your breasts are getting ready to leak but I have been producing mass amounts of liquid for the past 5 weeks.

In fact so much so I could probably fill have a bottle in less than 2 minutes with the use of my hand.

Please someone help and tell me what this is and that it goes away?

Honestly? I'd see somebody tonight. It probably would be ok to wait till tomorrow but if it is mastitis and you're already feverish then it's well set in. Breast tissue is very sensitive and needs looking after. You need them in tip top condition and you need to feel well again.

I'm going to go back up to the OOH soon, I don't want to take any chances as I really want to BF. Phoned my Gran at work (she's a nurse) and thinks it sounds like mastitis too, given the way I have been feeling since yesterday.

With mastitis you also need to look at the underlying cause so if it is that then talk to your midwife tomorrow about what to do about the amount you're leaking/producing.

Nip it in the bud and you should be fine. Take care.

Thanks very much again for your advice.

I have been producing a lot since around 17-18 weeks, I assumed it was because I have mammoth boobs.

I'll ask about what I can do about over production but if it was a case of it being backed up would I not need to start expressing?

Just back, she thinks there could be an infection but will leave it up to the Consultant tomorrow to decide if she wants to give me anything and also it could be backed up.

She also said that I should tell them about the over production as she doesn't think the amount is normal.

Thanks again for your advice. :)

Strawberry I have only just seen this thread and cannot thank you enough for starting it. I was going to start one to ask the same thing as I am in so much pain. Am at the same stage as you and it is horrid. I get it worst if I feel cold, to the extent that I wish there was a way to temporarily remove my nipples Shock

I actually had a complete go at DH tonight because every time I mention it he gives me these funny looks and starts going on about how "only you could experience that". I almost felt like stabbing him in the nipple with a large safety pin in his sleep tonight!

I also read on the net that it could be mastitis, have been having the pain for pretty much three weeks but thought I would wait and see how it panned out. I have had no fluid yet though.

May as well go see the GP to be sure.

Go and see your GP just to be sure.

Before I started this thread I was feeling like you.

I really hope everything gets better for you as it is so horrible. :( I honestly thought it could only be me that would get this as well.

Tell your DH that you are going to bite his frigging nipples off if he gives you that look again.

Praise the lord that I have just found this thread - I am 25 weeks and while not leaking am in agony with hot paindful breasts and stinging sensations (indeed just like a hot poker in my nipple).
Am off to see my GP tomorrow to see what can be done - Thank you strawberry x
