Help! Suffered with SPD last pregnancy but much later than my now 26 week 2nd one. Clicking again but no real pain, just discomfort for now. Seeing physio for excercises and strap.

But.... for last five weeks felt as if been punched in groin. Gradually has worsened and now every time I stand up, swelling occurs around groin/pubic area. Now here permanently. Docs and hospital think it might be SPD related but can't confirm - and have no cure other than (helpfully) suggesting I stay lying down for the next 3 months! Anyone had anything like this before? Am in real pain and can't stand up for mor than 5 mins without looking like the elephant man - v sexy! Walking is at a snail's pace - not easy with a 1 1/2 year old ds. Help, please?

At 38 weeks, I had a swollen 'lip' down there in my 'bits'. I was up at the hospital having everyone lookig at it....yes, very glamourous!
Pressure apparantly

oooh, sounds like my pregnancy, and they eventually diagnosed me as having an inguenal hernia.... is it swollen on your groin? With stiffness if you have been sitting? Also, if you lie on your back, can you make the swelling go down by pushing it back in (if you see what I mean?!)? The good news is that it didn't affect my pregnancy (apart from it being quite uncomfortable sometimes), but the bad news is you will need to have surgery eventually. Do get it diagnosed though, you want to make sure it doesn't get strangulated (will need emergency surgery then), and then you will get automatically referred after the birth. Good luck!

Reading your post again, if it IS a hernia (and I'm surprised they haven't diagnosed it if it is), if it's that swollen, you might need more immediate attention.... best of luck...

jos1, if the swelling is over your labia then it might be vulval varicosities which are varicose veins caused by the pressure of the baby. Ice packs & paracetamol can help. They do go down after the birth.

Inguinal area is more likely, like Orangina says. I had laser surgery for severe endometreosis some years ago and the fluid they put in to aid healing drained down the inguinal canal and got blocked there for five days. It feels as if this is in the same area. Orangina, did you get any short term relief? I'm in agony and can't walk more than to and from the kitchen at the mo. They've ruled out a normal hernia - didn't protrude when I coughed, apparently!

jos1, I'm sorry to say I never found anything to help the stiffness and (at times) pain.... it was not generally painful enough for me to feel comfortable taking any painkillers, just v v uncomfortable. I just had to watch how long I stayed in certain positions. Lying down was fine (), funnily enough, sitting down in one position for more than 20 mins at a time was just terrible (I remember at the end of a dinner party when I had been sitting there for a few hours, I could barely walk...). I found that getting up and walking around did help. REALLY good luck, I hope somebody will be able to help you, either here in MN or through your ante-natal care...

Would one of those belts help? Take the pressure off the area?
