Travel insurance for complicated/IVF pregnancy

hello I have just booked a ten-day holiday to Turkey during my 23rd & 24th week of pregnancy, but am now finding that my insurance doesn't cover IVF pregnancies, and I can't find any that do... Sad

Has anyone else had this, and found an insurance company that will cover us with 'complicated' pregnancies. I'm desperate as neither my partner or I will be able to get a refund now and I was sooooo looking forward to just chilling out in the sun.

I'm with direct line and pregnancy isn't listed as a medical condition so when we called them to see if I was covered (not a ivf pregnancy tho) and they said that they don't list it because they don't discriminate against pregnant women, if anything happens we'd be covered. You could try them, good luck and have a fantastic holiday.

I know this is an old thread, but I came across it today when I have been looking for travel insurance (had IVF but now in a complication-free pregnancy)

I Have been having a NIGHTMARE trying to get travel insurance to cover me for a single trip of 4 days to Europe. As soon as they ask online/on phone if you have had a medical procedure or operation in the past 2 years, the whole IVF thing comes up....and they won't insure you.

I have looked at several forums where people say not to inform them, but if something serious does happen abroad (and the midwife said to take my green notes away with me when I travel) they will spot the IVF immediately and the insurance becomes void.

I was speaking with one insurance company who said they wouldn't cover me, but they did put me through to BIBA (British Insurance Brokers Association) who helpfully put me in touch with an insurance company who WILL insure me! - GALLAGHER HEATH

I had a long chat with the lady at G-H and she had a long chat with her manager. I basically said that even though I had assisted conception, I did not have an assisted pregnancy, and so my pregnancy was no more 'high risk' than any other (I will be 26 weeks when travelling) and I couldn't understand why IVF pregnancies were treated differently.

Anyway, they said they will insure me as if it was a 'normal' pregnancy, ie as if I was a 'normal' person - not sure if this was my persuasive argument and a one off or their general policy.

The insurance is their platinum cover and costs £26 for 4 days (quite steep compared to around £15 for 'normal policies'), but they are a specialist insurer and cover all bases. I am prepared to pay it for peace of mind to be honest.

The final thing I would say is that all the insurance companies said they don't usually deal with questions like this...which I find bizarre as there have got to be hundreds of women who have had IVF who travel abroad. Perhaps they just get a standard policy and hope for the best or don't need to make a claim....but if you are the unlucky one and something does happen to land you in hospital and your insurer doesn't cover you....nightmare.

The insurer I found was Gallagher Heath:
