Did anybody choose NOT to do the scans?

I'm 31, 6 weeks preg, no particular risk factors. Just been to the GP and she asked if I wanted to book a nuchal scan, and I'm not sure. I wanted to know how many people choose to do these scans, and how many just let fate take its course? I'd prefer never to have been given the option, frankly! Although it could put your mind at rest for the next 33 weeks, it could also cause a lot of stress and worry, maybe unnecessarily. The nuchal scan is no big deal, but if it led on to the CSV, amniocentisis, etc... it seems every decision is a tough one. What does everyone else think?

Here(East yorkshire) you have the choice to have the 12 week scan with or without the nuchal.

Everyone has a choice of not having the nuchal part of the 12 week "dating" scan, if they would rather not have it.

Everyone has the right to refuse any scan / test / examiniation (or part of) at any time during pregnancy / labour

I was in two minds about the nuchal scan, DH wanted it so we did plan to, but when I went for my 12 week scan I only measured 10+1 so it was too early. Was offered the choice of going back, but the same scan revealed a twin that had stopped growing at 8+3 which makes the results much less accurate, and apparently increases the risk of false positives. I decided it just wasn't worth the stress of worrying about it.

We weren't offered a nuchal scan but I did refuse the blood tests to screen for downs. After a long time ttc and a worrying start to the pg (suspected ectopic and then spotting) I knew that I wanted to have this baby no matter what and did not want any more worry and stress than necessary.

I wasn't offered for my first (I don't think Confused) but I declined for this one.

The way I thought about it was this: if the scan was a 100% guaranteed accurate way of telling me that the baby had XYZ wrong that was incompatible with life, then it would have been worth doing. As it is, all it tells you is that more tests need to be decided on, so you've got the stress of thinking something could be wrong while you wait for the tests and the risks that an amnio poses to your baby - when actually there might be nothing wrong anyway.

Not worth it for me personally as I knew it wouldn't affect anything anyway - but that's just me.

I had the dating scan but not the nuchal bit as dh and I would not be able to abort so will take what life gives us. The 20w scan looks for anomolies which I did have but that was mostly because a friend's baby had a heart problem and as they knew at 20w they could prepare for it (the hospital I mean) and she had the op at 6 months old but was carefully monitored up to that point.
