SPD - anyone else joining me on the birthing ball?

Hello out there, was looking for a support thread for those of us unlucky enough to have developed SPD and couldn't find a current one.

I'm 19 weeks (EDD 26.10.11) and have been aware of pelvic pain since conception (v mild at first) but it's steadily getting worse. I now can't walk more than about 30 yds without being sofa/birthing ball - bound for the evening.

My physio is fitting me with crutches on Monday as I can't avoid a bit of walking for my work (I run drama workshops all over the place so have to travel to them and I don't drive).

So far cycling's wonderful but I'm not aloud to use my bike like a mobility scooter as far as I know so cycling usually involves a bit of walking too.

Grr just wanted to be able to rant without annoying my v supportive antenatal thread.

Hope things happen soon for you, woodifer.

MissusTulip · 10/11/2011 22:39

yay! Congrats Els! Cool baby name Wink. Hope recvery goes well and pgp keeps on settling... well done make up etc! Adam is over 2 weeks old now (eeep time is flying) and I have not managed make up yet, showering daily is achievment enough Blush

hope baby woodifer is not going to keep you waiting too much longer, and if ur still waiting, hope time is not dragging too much...

still mainly focussed on cs recovery but noticing a few pgp remanants that were prob masked by all the lovely painkillers - still have lots o lovely painkillers but not as strong and I am a bit erratic taking them due to sleep depirvation... hips still sore and affecting walking a bit today ad symphisis pubis sore at times during bf-ing. Still much much better than when pregnant - there is hope ahead ladies still waiting on the birthing ball!

hope ur cs recovery going well iwill! Dreading weekend on, as dh back at work this week and DM who has been over the past 2 weeks heads back home on Saturday Sad - am bricking it a little as Adam likes to be bopped up and down by some willing sucker a loving parent or grandparent to gt his wind up and help him settle and it kills my cs wound and ain't much cop on the last remains of the old pgp...

hope everyone else doing well / at least coping and not too dispirited by pgp suckiness x

Anyone else post natal & still got pain..... I have fairly bad what feels like period cramps around the lower back & front. Also at times pain in the hips and pubic bone, which I know is definitely PGP, but not sure about the other . Baby is 1 month old already Shock. I know they say to give hormones 6 weeks to settle down.... just wondering though if anyone else has this period-like pain?

MissusTulip .... my cs recovery not going so good. Wound open & bleeding, have endometritis(kind of womb infection), have had 5 courses of antibiotics for it and am still tender on the cs "overhang" between scar & belly button.....do you have this? Drs concerned about it, have review this week about it and I'm seriously worried :( Hope you are doing better than this!

Woodifer · 13/11/2011 20:42

Hope it all settles down with time Iwill , baby wood is still hanging in there 41+1!! pelvis relatively ok been walking to try shake baby down.

MissusTulip · 13/11/2011 23:26

come out come out baby woodifer! glad ur holding up ok, hope its not for too much longer... any date for induction or owt?

Iwill- oh, ouch, poor you. My scar has scarred ok, sorry ur having such trouble Sad. hope antibiotics work soon. Yes, tender over / in scar / wound region. Makes moving n handling junior tricky to painful, winding him is the pits. numb / funny sensation above n around it, feels hot at times but that just seems random. YY to still having some pgp - hips intermittently still sore / limping weird gait and SP still sore, esp when bf-ing. Put junior in close carrier sling yesterday and that aggravated / brought back the pgp lots, rather pissed off as it was lovely to have both hands for an hour Smile I have several weird symptoms, some are easing up which is a relief as i was worrying the butcher who did my cs had fucked up even more than we knew about...

hope you've got help with baby n round house, so you can take proper care of urself and get on with healing up. mum was here til yesterday which was brill... wept buckets when she left (all round bad day yesterday tho). better today!

kenobi · 15/11/2011 13:33

I came on to have a good moan but saw your post IWILL - sounds awful. My scar was sore last time round for a good six weeks though it has healed beautifully. It sounds like you're having a fairly horrid time.

I had to have my first day off on Fri - didn't make it to the bottom of the stairs due to white-hot stabbing pains in left back pelvis when I walked. I HATE stupid bloody PGP with a vengeance.

I know I'm lucky to have DD, DH, to be up the duff, somewhere to live etc etc but the constant (albeit mostly mild) pain is incredibly wearing and makes me irritable.

Woodifer · 15/11/2011 18:49

Oh kenobi hope it settles down.

10 days over, got induction provisionally booked for fri, but got consultant appt tomorrow to discuss wait and see approach.

kenobi · 17/11/2011 16:11

Sob, me toooooooo!

I've been where you are woodifer. I went to 2.5 weeks over before caving in and being induced, classic cascade of intervention ending in a c-section. If you can bear it and your baby is fine, holding out is the better way I think.

Woodifer · 18/11/2011 03:57

Ah went into labour on Wednesday, excruciating back to back presentation had me begging for drugs at only 1cm dilated. 20 mins later I'm 5cm and unable to not push, so they let me in and I get on the gas, gas not really touching it, neither does diamorphine. Epidural was just what I needed, but from crazy early pushing urge earlier, actual delivery pushing really hard work, size (8lb 5) and presentation meant epesiotomy and ventouse. Eatly hours of thursday - Amazing chubby little girl with shock of dark hair. Feeds like a champ! Over the moon!

Woodifer · 18/11/2011 07:03

Ps obviously not rushing around at the minute but pelvis loads better already :)

kenobi · 18/11/2011 11:00

WELL DONE Woodifer! Phew, sounds like a hard, fast labour...

iWILLdothis · 18/11/2011 19:27

Congrats, woodifer! Enjoy your bundle & hope ur pgp disappears. X

Hi, I'm new to the thread. Big congratulations to everyone who has got over the finish line! Miraculous! :)

I had my baby girl 14 weeks ago and have had severe spd for 6 months now (since about 27th week of pregnancy). It's been a terrible emotional rollercoaster and I just wanted to share what I've learnt, in case anyone else finds it helpful.

  • It often doesn't go away straight after the birth. If this happens to you, don't panic like I did! Virtually everyone gets better with the right treatment. It takes a lot of work and willingness to travel to an experienced practitioner, though (the charities below have a list of specialists).
  • If your SPD is severe, don't trust midwives because they may well not appreciate the risks of having your feet in stirrups during labour etc. (Sorry to midwives, this is just my experience!)
  • Pelvic Partnership (Oxford based) and PINS (Scotland) are the best charities to get in touch with. Very informed and reassuring - lots of practical tips and suggestions for treatment.
  • I'm seeing an osteopath alongside physio exercises in an attempt to get the best of both worlds.
  • Recovery goes up and down - it can feel very one step forward and two steps back.
  • Don't get pregnant again without getting the all-clear from a specialist physio or osteopath.
  • If at all possible, don't pick up babies/toddlers if you feel it may be exacerbating things.
iWILLdothis · 06/12/2011 20:50

Thanks for those tips nse. discomfort still lingering for me 7 wks on...might need more physio :(
How's everyone elsedoing now?
