high/low blood pressure

Every time I have my blood pressure checked the readings seem to be wildly different and sometimes the doctor is worried and sometimes he's pleased but very hard to relate his views to the blood pressure numbers. So, I just wondered if someone could tell me what the two numbers represent and what is the average figure an average healthy/pregnant person should have, if there is such a number.

Thanks

Copy & pasted this (I'm not an expert!)

Blood pressure is the amount of force exerted by the blood against the walls of the arteries. A person's blood pressure is considered high when the readings are greater than 140 mm Hg systolic (the top number in the blood pressure reading) or 90 mm Hg diastolic (the bottom number).

What was your booking in blood pressure? If you use that (if it was accurate) as your baseline, you can get an idea of what was normal for you. I had PE in my last pg, so had my BP taken almost daily. The MW's felt it was more accurate doing it by hand, than with the electronic machines.
