how shall behave? what do I say? I am still quite sick and extremely exhausted. HG is not very well understood and I am worried that he will think I am just being a hypocondriac and taking the mickey because I m pg. I am only 15 weeks and this is my third week off sick.

I had really really bad sickness for the first three months of my pregnancy, I was nearly hospitalised and managed to lose two stones (as I was 7 stones to begin with I did not look good).
Like you helsi I was really upset about taking (what I thought was) ridiculous amount of time off work. I really lost it during the second month and phoned my boss, tearfully offering my resignation, my boss told me to calm down, get well and come back to work when I felt able to do so, the next day I received the hugest most beautiful flower bouquet ever (unfortnately the smell of it made my sickness worse).
My boss has kids too, so has been there done that and held his wifes hair back when she threw up.....

Try and relax, and take lots of rest as that will help ease the sickness a bit too, it's not your fault.

HG is hyperemesis gravidarum, you can find out more on this link (the website Helsi was mentioning earlier)

Blooming Awful

Thanks for that link ppp. You poor thing Helsi! You have my total sympathy.

MarsLady · 19/11/2005 10:10

Thanks for the link!

That's what I had and it lasted the entire pregnancy. I had the ptyalism and NO ONE had ever heard of it. I found out what it was called on the day I gave birth to the twins.

I couldn't move from the bathroom most days. I wish I had known more about it at the beginning... but as I'm not having any more kids I don't need to worry about it.

I'm sorry you're going through it Helsi. The amount of people who would say... why don't you just swallow? Grrrr..... Wish I could've pointed them in this direction.

I hope it ends soon. The babies were never in any danger, but I was closely monitored throughout.. though some of that was due to the fact that I was carrying twins.

I had it too. I suffered in work for a while before it got real bad and had to be signed off for a few weeks. Was 'blooming awful' !

I didn't think my boss would understand that it was more than just 'morning sickness' so I e-mailed him a link to a website to try to explain it. Luckily he read it and understood.

Most suprising though was the woman I work with, all she could say was things like 'I had morning sickness and I used to get on the bus every morning to come into work then throw up when I got off...didn't stop me going to work'. I tried explaining it to her but she couldn't understand. When I returned to work I had gone and had my hair cut - and she said 'it's amazing what you can do with spare time'. What a *** !!!

Anyway - that was over a year ago, and it still makes me angry. HV is not well understood which is a real pity for those who have it.

Just found out that I'm expecting again !!!! So, I'm wondering if the same thing will happen........ eeeeek

Helsi, Just read this and i can remember how bad i felt when i had HG.so i sympathise with you.
It lasted my entire pregnancy . I was still being sick the day i gave birth at 38 weeks (but i was carrying twins)
I remember people saying 'its only morning sickness' buts it not is it? Hope you start to feel better very soon.

Ruthie, I had HG and was on a drip first time round. I went on to have 2 more. With ds2 I was medicated from week 5, and came off at 16 weeks, and only needed a few weeks off (mainly due to the meds I think). With ds3, I only took meds for a fortnight or so, and it was much better. I spoke to loads of PG women with HG when I was on the blooming awful info line thingy, and mostly (no promises though!), those who were brave enough to have more, henerally had a better pg than before. HTH!
