Where to buy maternity clothes?

I've got approx 15 weeks left until I give birth and starting to need maternity clothes. I've looked in Asda, Peacocks & Matalan but clothes are quite expensive. Just want 6-8 basic t-shirts, 2 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of black trousers for work and some comfy trousers for in the house. But I've totted it up and its going be about £150 for that lot. Am I missing somewhere that might have cheaper clothes?? I looked on e-bay but I'm not sure if I need a 14 or 16 because it depends on the clothes, especially trousers.

if you type that code i gave you in the promo code bit, when it accepts it a box comes underneath with another code which is the one that gives you the free delivery. Think ill have to treat myself to some new bits now as it makes things so cheap!!

ebay! If you search "maternity bundle" and your size they have some great bargains. I just bagged myself a huge bundle for just over £50 quid! Grin

It's a bit of a risk, but I was in mothercare at the weekend and I could have spent £50 on a couple of tops alone!

PrincessJenga · 29/05/2011 22:13

I'm finding primark good for t shirts. They're not 'maternity' ones but seem to be longer than the ones other shops do. I've just been buying two sizes bigger than normal and they're working fine (plus, they're only £2/£3 each)

My work trousers came from Matalan (£12 I think) and I also have a pair of Next linen trousers, which I can get away with for work, but it depends on how formal your workwear is.

The rest of the time I'm in H&M leggings and empire line dresses.

I do admit that i am BORED of my maternity clothes though!

Although it seems expensive, how many items would you have brought for the new season anyway? Also I wore maternity clothes for a couple of months afterwards as well which helps with cost effectiveness.

Primark and Ebay. Take your time looking around the ebay bundles there are some great ones in there. I got over 20 items for under £30 and only 2 of them not really wearable. Pick the ones that name the brand and preferably show photos so you know they are your kind of thing.

Has anyone had a look at the maternity jeans at JustMaternityJeans.com yet?

harrygracejessica · 30/05/2011 16:29

Just to say that if you are needing maternity bras, mamas and papas have some in their 3 for £15 offer. A great bargin when you consider just the cheapest bra by itself it costs £16!

saoirse86 · 30/05/2011 20:35

I really liked M&P. You have to have a good look around their site. You would think if you select maternity clothes > view all you would see all maternity clothes but you don't! Confused

Here's the jeans from £9

If you request a catalogue you'll get a free £5 gift card with no minimum spend and you can order as many as you want and use them on separate orders, but don't tell anyone I said that. You can also order to collect in store to save delivery.

Pumpkin patch has loads of stuff instore that's not online and at the moment everything in store is buy one get one half price.

I got some nice maternity stuff from H&M the other day, all of which was reduced. Also some trousers from Dorothy Perkins for £20 which are smart enough for work but really comfy and roll up to 3/4 length so I can imagine they'll get lots more use too.
I've also been buying normal leggings in bigger sizes and slightly larger empire line tops too. I'm 19 weeks at the mo, so not Huge yet, I may not get away with this method in a few weeks time.

mathanxiety · 30/05/2011 20:51

EBay suggestion seconded, or boot sales.

You'll be wearing them for a good while after the baby arrives, if my experience is anything to go by. You'll eventually hate to even look at them. Silly to spend too much by buying new or full price.

Iggly · 30/05/2011 20:56

Make sure you buy maternity wear in your usual size or maybe one up. If you buy normal trousers in bigger sizes they won't fit properly!

I bought trousers and a skirt from eBay and long tshirts from the tall section of Dorothy Perkins etc. Then got sick of it all by 8 months and got a couple of dresses which I planned to eBay but will actually use them this time around!

saoirse86 · 30/05/2011 20:58

If you're planning on having more children in the not too distant future you might as well buy new IMO. I've vacuum packed all my maternity clothes ready for next time. A little bit of money first time will save me loads for next time as long as I'm big in the summer! Hmm Grin

I have the same issue about spending fortunes on clothes I'll not be wearing for very often although you do also wear them after the baby is born too for a wee while until your baby weight drops off so you do get a lot of wear out of clothing, more than you may think. I am pregnant with baby no.2 and with my 1st I simply bought a pair of maternity jeans and a pair of maternity combats and a couple of maternity tops from New Look although I bought loads of larger-than-normal-sized tops from Primark where you can literally buy about 10 tops for £30-40 quid! That was my comfy wardrobe!

On this occasion though I do need office/work wear as I also work from home but attend business meetings through the week as you do. I have just taken the advice of daisystone above and logged into affordablematernity.co.uk and have spent £120 including delivery costs to buy 3 pairs of suit/smart trousers and 5 smart tops (1 for each day :) ) and I think that is really great value as they are designed to last through my whole pregnancy due to the wrap style and floaty tops and the adjustable waistbands on the suit trousers. They have a relatively small but lovely range of items to suit all shapes and sizes of pregnancies so I'd advise you to log on there too.

Hopefully this helps you :)

Graciescotland · 08/06/2011 23:53

Ebay for dresses, they're more forgiving than trousers sizewise, it might not be your normal thing but they tend to be cheap...
