Thyroid checked - for what?

I am A rhesus negative and after long discussions, decided to wait and see what my 28 week bloods showed up - if anything - as to whether I'd take anti-D or not. Anyway, surgery called this morning to ask me to have my thyroid checked with the nurse but there has been no further explanation as to why. Just wondered if any of you Mumsnetters had any experience of this and could let me know a bit about it.

One of the many symptoms of an underactive thyroid is depression, so your thyroid is generally checked before they give anti d's.

I had my first child 6 months ago and have been horribly tired like a fog around me all the time ever since, more tired than I should be, I've also put on alot of weight and been losing handfuls of hair in the shower. I went to my GP and she ran some tests, turns out I have an underactive thyroid which has all my symptoms. I'm acctually relieved as I thought I was turning into an exhausted bald blob! I'm on medication now and already feel better.
Thyroid can be underactive or overactive and is a common disorder after pregnancy, it may have nothing to do with being rh neg.
