... surely this means that under mumsnet law 1.01 I am Officially Ready To Have A Baby. No? What else could I possibly need?

My Step MIL bought me muslin cloths, telling me they were essential. Not a clue what to do with them.

jenga079 · 26/05/2011 12:23

Nope, me neither, but they crop up on every other thread so I thought I should get some!

Muslins have 100s of uses. Shade cloth, light blanket, burp cloth, emergency nappy, picnic blanket, emergency breast pad, breastfeeding cover (if you feel you need it), swaddling blanket... These are just the baby related uses.

I'm sure someone else will be along to give you more

Scheherezadea · 26/05/2011 12:33

Sounds like how I feel about toilet roll ;)

katherine2008 · 26/05/2011 12:33

I still use muslins for dd 2.8 for wiping her nose and her tears. Enjoy. Kids love them and a lot of friends I know have alternative names for 'muslin'... (so do we, but I'm too embarrassed to share!)

supadupapupascupa · 26/05/2011 12:35

I still use mine as a bib for when out and about. They're basically a bit of fabric for getting mucky.

some babies use them as comforters too

jenga079 · 26/05/2011 12:37

Oh come on Katherine! Share, please share! (or share your 'friends' names for them!)

variously 'noo noo', 'foffy' and the obvious 'muzzy'. I'm not fessing to which one is mine...!

lolajane2009 · 26/05/2011 19:39

lol i'm still confused. I got some a few weeks ago.

DuelingFanjo · 26/05/2011 19:45

you will find them invaluable for dribble, bogeys and sick. I forget to take them out with me and, seriously, my whole day is fraught!

aethelfleda · 26/05/2011 19:50

When they get bigger they knock over EVERY drink, so unless you want yours to use sippy cups til 18, hold onto those muslins!!

NewMummy5July2011 · 27/05/2011 07:24

Where's the best place to get them from? I've been looking but haven't actually managed to find any, except for Mothercare and they were ridiculously expensive!

Raahh · 27/05/2011 07:33

I got loads of muslins from Tesco- think they were 6 for £5. Must admit use them less with dd2 (dc3), but with Ds, they were great. He wouldn't sleep without one covering his face. It was definitely a comfort thing- but they are much easier to replace than some things they get attached to.

I was originally bought them as burping cloths (for over the shoulder), but don't think I ever actually used them for that!

BoattoBolivia · 27/05/2011 07:41

Ikea have big packs in funky patterns and colours.

Bogeyface · 27/05/2011 08:05

I agree that they are good as comforters (num-num in this house Blush), far easier to replace if it gets lost than the expensive blanket bought from a particular shop that got left behind on holiday one year and neccesitated an intensive internet search and a 70 mile round trip to replace, for example Hmm :o

They are great as shoulder cloths for burping, bibs, general wipe ups, as a "catch cloth" between the sheet and babys head, snot and sick wiper upper.....basically just a bunch of cloths that you buy with the sole intention of catching all the manky stuff that you dont want on your floor, your sofa or yourself!

Thank you ladies. Now I have them AND I know what to call them AND what to do with them. Excellent!

newmummy I bought mine on eBay.
