Where the heck to get a 'normal' maternity nightdress?

Ok, so I may be tight, but I don't expect to have to spend £30 on a simple nightdress!

Can anyone please tell me where to get a non expensive maternity nightie from??

I've gone through about 15 google links, and found them all to be ridiculously expensive. Where's stuff for the normal folk???

In your husbands wardrobe?

I'm not at that stage yet but I plan to be raiding his tshirts for 'lounge wear' when I am!

apples82 · 24/05/2011 15:28

I would do, if he wasn't smaller than me pre-pregnancy! Angry

I just want to get a couple of comfy nightdresses that will see me though to birth.

Can you just get a non maternity one in a big size from Marks, BHS or Evans?

harassedinherpants · 24/05/2011 15:34

Last time I just bought a couple of cheapie ones in a larger size from Peacocks. Gave birth in one of them actually......

apples82 · 24/05/2011 15:34

I guess I could starfishmummy, but will they stretch to a 9month pregnancy belly? I doubt it, I think i'd make them tear under the strain Grin

Yes they will stretch if they're a stretchy kind of fabric. I am wearing normal size medium nightie (tho from White Co sale so not cheap) and am enormous at 41 weeks!

jasmine51 · 24/05/2011 15:38

Primark - not maternity ones but plenty of large sizes and shapes that are cheap enough but ok enough to see you through all stages.

starfishmummy · 24/05/2011 15:38

Well I'm a big girl anyway and mine did - I picked loose styles and was quite close to due date when I bought them. (Didnt bother until then!)

lolajane2009 · 24/05/2011 16:12

larger size non maternity from primark.

ellie21 · 24/05/2011 18:22

I got some nightshirts from La Senza which have been fab - they are currently reduced to £18, and button all the way through so would be good for breast-feeding afterwards too. I'm 39 weeks and the Large still fits comfily.

jamama · 24/05/2011 18:29

If your heart is set on a mat one, Mothercare have some (and before the haters start, I am a newbie to this whole world of mum-to-be shopping, so no idea if mothercare ones any good or not), they are also on 3 for 2 and aren't super-expensive, although prob not as cheap as Primark/Peacocks. The even have some with the clippy things for feeding if you're keen on those.

Kat3L · 24/05/2011 18:32

I got a pack of two t-shirt material ones from Mothercare recently. I can't remember how much but think less than £20 for the pack. One is navy with a pink trim and the other is pink with a navy trim. They are also suitable for breastfeeding if needed as they have a press stud opening at the front. Happy shopping!

I had something like this from M&S. I wore it for the birth too, being able to have the buttons undone was good for skin to skin and breast feeding. I bought a couple of sizes bigger and it lasted me even with excess fulid!

ng1412 · 24/05/2011 18:42

I got some dirt cheap ones from Bon Marche, make sure they are cotton as I initially got some from Primark but they were polyester and not suitable for the heat of a hospital so I took them back.

Just buy them in a size or two above your normal size.

Thanks all, i'll get clicking online and see what I can find Smile

noticed in peacocks they had nice shirt type one with button down top, gave birth in a peacocks one last time. Also loved their yoga pant thingys (they had wide band at top that you double over but it covered bump nicely! Ih ad mothercare ones last time but found they didn't feel that comfy to be honest.

festive · 25/05/2011 17:43

I got a couple cheapo long t-shirt type ones with some buttons down from primark to labour in. About 4 quid each so can throw them away after if necessary.

Also got a pack of 2 pretty strappy nighties from mothercare - come in a pack of 2, one is plain pale pink, the other is cream with pink flowers. Very soft cotton and have washed really well. think was 28 or 30 quid for the pack.
found mothercare maternity clothes totally rubbish but their maternity / nursing bras and nighties/pjs very nice cotton, soft, lovely colours etc and good value. if you have their parenting club magazine thing there is a 5 quid off voucher in there too...

Scaredycat3000 · 25/05/2011 20:11

Here! You get free delivery as well. Small selection in the sale, but good prices Grin

JimmyChoo17 · 25/05/2011 20:20

Hennes! Or h&m however u know them.....I bought some nighties in there one size bigger but have stretched with my bump! Was non maternity but they do do maternity too. Loose enough for birth and easy and stretchy enough to pull down a flop boobies out if needed fo BF. About £8 they were.

Tealdoe · 25/05/2011 20:21

I also got mine from La Senza - buttoned all the way up. The ones I got were reduced to £10 (last weekend anyway). Intended to only get one but it was too much of a bargain so ended up buying three! Large was big enough.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 25/05/2011 20:36

I gave up on maternity wear a long time ago. 36 weeks and still wearing normal clothes. With the right cut they still fit my bump in my pre preggers size, or sometime I go up a size or two.

firstsupermum · 25/05/2011 20:39

i bought some from Ebay, good used once, very cheap, just for pregnancy, and also once from primark.
no need to spend more than £5 on each at all, and cotton.
realy great items

OrangeGloss · 25/05/2011 21:20

Thanks scaredycat, I've just bought the top and the 2 nightshirts, bargain :)

apples82 · 26/05/2011 09:39

Thanks everyone, i've now bought two nightdresses from Peacocks and a nightshirt from JoJo Maman Bebe!
