Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone knew of any info out there (eg. CDs/DVDs books) on emergencies in pregnancy and what you should do etc...
Know it's a bit depressing to ask- but thought it would be good to 'clue' myself up on things.
Also thinking ahead- about emergency first aid etc.. for babies.

The Red Cross do a First Aid for babies and young children course, it costs about £45.

Sure Start centres often do a free course, my local one offered it, it was a couple of hours and covered the first aid basics including infant CPR - basically it covered enough to keep you going while waiting for a doctor/ambulance. Try contacting your local one to see if they offer it.

For pregnancy emergencies your midwife should have given you an "office hours" contact number and an "out of office hours" number, the out of hours one is usually the number for the hospital where you are booked, either their early assessment unit or maternity assessment unit. If you don't have a number for out of hours or can't get in touch with your midwife or GP, etc then A&E is always your fastest route. That's what my midwife told me, especially with bleeding.

My NHS antenatal classes for my first included a first aid for babies, young children class in the six week course, but that was 6 years ago.
