I am about 8 weeks and feeling constantly sick, though I haven't been sick. I almost wish I would though if it would get rid of it! I didn't feel like this with ds, and i'm going on holiday tomorrow so need help! Eating little and often helps a bit but it returns half an hour or so after eating. Anyone else get this? What works for you? When does it stop?!

That's exactly how I was in first trimester. It's miserable but it did stop for me around 16 weeks (half way there then, hurrah!). I found boiled sweets helped, lemonade or fizzy orange and lots of fruit. Fruit smoothies too were good as they made me feel full too.

All the stuff about ginger and dry biscuits didn't do it for me.

Sorry you'r'e feeling crappy. Hang in there pet x

Going to keep my eye on this thread. Im 8 weeks to. I have constant nausea and I cannot face food. The only time I do not feel sick is when Im eating but like you it returns. Tonight I was sick for the first time but the nausea is still here. This is my 2nd DC but with the first I was sick and then felt fine.

The only saving grace is that whilst Im being sick the little one is growing.

Im trying ginger biscuits, and plain crackers. I can also suck fox's glacier mints. Nothing ground breaking Im afraid.

just resting and know it would hopefully stop at 12 weeks helped me well its 10 now and loads better. I tryed everthing the only thing that helped was lying down even just for 30 mins to settle the sickness abit. Actually if I ever got chance wouldnt feel guilty about lying down a bit longer of course this might no be possible with alot of people I found when on holiday I had more time to do this and you dont have to worry about doing as much housework type jobs so might be a nice rest for you. Mine was 24 hours so understand just be careful if it gets hard to hold anything down make sure you see a doctor before you go. I had to see one on holiday and it was a bit of a pain plus I didnt want to take anything they gave me just in case it was "a bit funny" . xx

Sleep makes a big difference but I found those little cheese biscuit shapes (the kind my Granny used to put out at Christmas) really helped. I could just have a few and the saltiness helped too (I think). Seems a distant memory now as I am expecting twins and was sick until 16w. Am 22w now and I almost forget the sickness even though it lasted for 10w!

Isntitironic · 25/05/2011 12:35

I really sympathise - I'm 21w with my first and just had no idea how debilitating it could be. Mine stopped at 17w. In no particular order, I found all of these helpful at some point:

Fizzy drinks - get calories into you, but they don't actually have much in them, which might not be nutritionally great but means there's less your stomach can object to!

Dry crackers - cream crackers, water biscuits or those salty cheesy cracker thingies someone else mentioned. Just make sure you drink plenty because bringing those back up without adequate dilution is HELL. (They clog like cement - sorry, but it's best to know!)

Plain biscuits - digestives, rich tea etc. I like the Nairn's ginger oat biscuits too - I find normal ginger nuts way too sweet when I'm sick.

Rennies - I know they're meant for indigestion, but I find them soothing!

A hot water bottle on my stomach helped too, and keeping very very still! Not always practical, though!

Probably the best advice I was given was "eat whatever the heck you want and don't worry about perfect nutrition". It's better to get something into you than nothing, so if you want crisps or microwave pizza, go ahead! Hope you feel better as soon as can be expected!

Hi,
I feel exactly like you, although it is beginning to ease (I'm 13 weeks in). Things I found useful:

Ice cream
Fizzy drinks (I've been drinking alot of Schloer as its fizzy and reasonably healthy..it is however bloody expensive!)
Keeping my mind on other things. The more I thought about the nausea the worse it got
Try to vary what you eat a bit. If you major on one food your mind will begin associating it with nausea to the point where it actually triggers it.

Strange though this sounds you do get sort of used to it after a while....

StopShoutingAtYourBrother · 25/05/2011 15:48

I found eating lots and often helped. Getting hungry or eating something which made my blood sugar spike made me feel hideous. Many congrats:)

Isthreetoomany · 25/05/2011 16:14

I'm 12 weeks with DC3 and the nausea has recently stopped. With my first it didn't stop until 20 weeks, with my second I hardly had any sickness at all.
I just tried to focus on making myself eat little and often and eating whatever I fancied.

NewMummy5July2011 · 25/05/2011 18:05

I was exactly the same as you in my first trimester until about 14 weeks so I feel your pain. I found eating little and often (as soon as I got hungry the nausea got worse), eating what I felt like rather than worrying about whether it was healthy or not, and foods easy to digest, like mash, croissants, white toast, bagels with spread, plain tomato and cheese pizza, and nothing too strong or smelly. Like the others, I found fizzy drinks helped, especially gingerale. Plain crackers (cream crackers) with butter on them were good too.

Hang in there... it gets better, I promise. I'm 34 weeks now and luckily the nausea never returned x

lolajane2009 · 25/05/2011 19:08

i was like that till about 12 weeks. was really miserable. i have to admit I found if i ate it got worse and i lived on corned beefsandwiches and peanut butter sandwiches for a while as that was all i could stomach. thankfully i am almost 24 weeks and finally feeling healthier.

blueeyedmonster · 25/05/2011 20:30

Iv'e been like this the past few days and it's making me feel really bleugh. I can't eat anything to settle it as it doesn't work and i've gone off food anyway. Of course I eat but it doesn't make me feel any betetr.

I got one of those sickness bands today and I had none the whole time I was wearing them! Usually at work I get very dizzy and sick but today........nothing. Just a little sick feeling when I got hungry but that went after a bit!

WiiUnfit · 25/05/2011 20:38

Poor you! This was me in my 1st Trimester!

I found the following helpful:

  • Polos, by the bucketload
  • Fizzy drinks, especially Sprite, Pepsi (watch the caffeine though) & Orange Lucozade
  • Eating little & often
  • Eating exactly what I felt like, try to think long & hard about what you really want to eat IYSWIM?
  • Travel sickness bands
  • Dry crackers
  • Ginger biscuits (I know it's a cliche, but they did help me)
  • Dry crusty rolls
  • Doing anything to stop me thinking about it
  • Indigestion tablets

Mine stopped at 13w to the day, hope this helps & hoping yours does the same!
