...and some cute sleep suits ;)

I was sort of scouting the shops but also checking out cibs and cots ...I plan on having baby in our room for at least 6 months then moving him to a montessori floor bed in her own room. Ideally I wanted to buy ONE sleeping solution for those first few months with the following:

  • can be attached safely to our bed so we can "co-sleep" (I am too scared to put baby on our bed, not an option at all)
  • wheels so that I can take it to other rooms in the flat and use the "motion" to soothe her to sleep if needed
  • small and suitable for small baby - I don't need a cot later on so want her to be as comfortable as possible

And sadly there is nothing out there that meets all of the above :(. A close runner up was the Sleepi but it cannot be attached to bed, but I love the shape and wheels and found it on sale with option of buying only a mini.
Can anyone who used it comment and tell me approx. how long will it last the baby for? Will it be enough for 6 months?

Also - how much storage do you actually need for a baby?!

Would love to hear other's experiences!

Hi Jenga

We moved our baby around in a moses basket for naps all the time. Our DS often was asleep on the basket on the table while we ate our lunch. It was fab.

Re co-sleeping, I've heard of worries about squishing, but this is the first time I've heard of someone worrying about kicking the baby out of the bed! As someone who did it for a long time, I can say that it would have been a physical impossibility for either me or DP to do that: the baby is curled up against your tummy while you're on your side. No way of getting a leg there to do the kicking! See the picture in this leaflet:

I totally understand that you may not want to co-sleep for many reasons, but I wanted to try to set your mind at rest on that particular score.

Thanks for all the responses!! I do need a crib and I def want a push chair - am thinking of getting a sling for quick nip out to shop etc but I think the comfort of a pram is nice too - esp that I have a beautiful huge park right next door and intend to walk there a lot :)

I think this thread has just convinced me to buy a stokke - I just love the way it looks and it comes with a canopy rod which I assume can be used to hang mobiles on and yes, they can see "outside" it also thought of attaching some black and white pics or a child-safe mirror to one side do that it becomes more interesting :)

aaaaaah! My first major baby purchase :) Am so excited! :)
Thanks ladies xxxxxxx

Thanks Slhilly. That's exactly what DP and my NCT teacher said, but I always throw pillows etc out of bed so am terrified I'd do the same to little one (I know, I know, I don't have maternal instincts towards the pillow, but still, the bedside cot will hopefully make me feel a bit less scared!)

Coldcomfort re the Amby -- again I did see it online while searching but also read mixed opinions about it and it isn't really what I'm looking for - I do need something that can be moved from room to room.

Well, the sleepi is on it's way so hopefully will report back in a few months !!!!

aahh, throwing out of the bed, I see! that's a different thing. you've got to do what makes you feel comfortable, and not more. you could have your DP do the co-sleeping if he doesn't do that?

You can move it from room to room (I used to everyday), but not probably up and down stairs.

I found that a cot where you could adjust the height for the mattress and could take one long side off was fine. I attached it to our bed with those straps you use to secure things on trailers (Homebase, halfords, sell them). The mattress of the cot was ever so slightly lower than the mattress of our bed but dd could roll from our bed in cot and back very safely. We left the side of the cot between our bed and the cot off and used bedguards at foot end and other side of our bed to make sure dd could never fall off our bed. This arrangement worked fine.
