This kind of thing?

I'm 29 wks pg with twins and my lower back and hips are killing me. If I only had a few weeks to go, I'd grin and bear it, but I could have months to go yet.

Any experiences?

Yes: I had SPD (worse each PG) and had one of these fitted by the antenatal physiotherapist, who also checked the fit and made sure I was angling it properly round the bump.

It sounds like you could do with a physiotherapy referral - there may be other ways they can help. And any appliances (like belts) will be free from them.

yes, I used this exact one from mothercare during my 2nd preg....it was great, i just felt it held my bump & gave me a extra support. A physio friend recommended it to me, am planning on using again during this 3rd preg.

HattiFattner · 20/05/2011 15:33

i was too big for even the biggest belt (my bumpwas VAST -I was like a caricature!) The physio gave me an enormous tubigrip that made me look like a pregnant worm. It was all she could do. Didnt help.

lilly13 · 20/05/2011 15:33

this is absolutely useless... does not provide any support. don't waste your money. it sounds like you might need a very firm belt. this is just a cotton band with a wide rubber band inside. i was utterly disappointed.

I had one lent to me by the physiotherapist when pg with dd1 as my back went at about 14w! - surprising, this pg my back is doing okay, I'm pg with twins too but only 22w so there's plenty of time. I would definitely get professional advice.

Get yourself a physio referral. If you're hurting now then you've got a long way to go. Not only will you get a belt of some description (ask for a serola - they are the rolly royce!) but you'll get some exercises to do too.

Good luck!

I have one as well. (that motehrcare one but white)

am only 24 weeks so not huge yet

i honestly didnt feel like it helped me at all Sad... but then maybe im not big enough?

buttonmoon78 · 20/05/2011 17:34

Nothing to do with bump size nannyl. More to do with the fact that it's rubbish.

TBH, you shouldn't really have anything too constricting around your hips unless you've been assessed by a physio. If you have any pelvic imbalance and are then pulling it tight you can do more harm than good.

Idlegirl83 · 20/05/2011 18:45

I have one and it's been really helpful. I don't wear it everyday, but it is great when I have a 'heavy bump' day and feel unable to put one foot in front of the other! It just relieves some of the weight and makes me feel more comfortable!

beatofthedrum · 20/05/2011 18:54

I found it really helpful for work, took it off once home. Worth a try?

Jojay · 21/05/2011 16:52

Thnaks everyone.

I got one and wore it for about 10 mins over my clothes and decided it made me ache even more, so I tihnk it'll go back to the shop.

If it's still bad in few days I think I'll go for that physio referral, but I did have a bit of a revalation last night.

I thought I'dtry a night in the spare bed as it's much firmer than ours, and I felt SO much better in the morning. I still ache a bit but not nearly as badly as I was before - this I can live with !

So it's off to the spare room for me, for the forseeable future Sad Grin

this is the "rolls royce" of belts according to my physio. I have bad PGP and it is helping lots. Highly recommend it. Should have bought it in last pregnancy, but didn't because of the price..... bought it this time at 7wks pg! Worth the money.

marie14 · 21/05/2011 18:09

I heard that using one too often can stop your stomach muscles strengthening! So you shouldn't use it every day, but just carry it round with you if your feeling heavy in the afternoon!

Having said that I'm 29wks with only one so can't imagine what it's like with twins!!! I'd speak to your midwife for a physio refferal!

buttonmoon78 · 22/05/2011 06:20

That's the very one Iwilldothis. Mine has seen me through (nearly) 2 pgs and is still going strong!

Marie you should wear it every day, but only under physio's guidance and also doing exercises every day.

You should put it on as soon as you get up in the morning and take it off before bed. If you've got to the point in the day when you're tired and sore/heavy then it's too late. All about prevention!
