I know its not a big deal really, but my feet and ankles have swelled up loads in the last week, am 35 weeks so no surprise really. i am just trying to stay off my feet and keep them up, does anyone have any other advice? Do support tights work? And will my cankles disappear when the baby comes or am i stuck with big fat ankles forever? :(

The support stockings work for me, I wear them all the time. Can also recommend massage and reflexology to relief the swelling!

Apparently, it all goes away once the baby arrives, I certainly hope so!

I too am 35 weeks. I start the day with mildly swollen ankles, get dressed to go to work and think 'mm, don't look too bad'

By the end of the day my feet have swelled to elephantine proportions, my trousers are falling down, my belly is sagging to my knees - everything is bloated. But it does get better when you deliver. Mine is worse when I don't drink enough fluids. And it goes within a few days of delivery (although oddly enough mine got worse for 48 hours post delivery with number 1 and I really thought that it was permanent!)

(Have you had your urine and blood pressure checked recently? Might be worth a quick chat with your MW at some point if the swelling is quite new)

I had this really badly - nothing worked to get rid while I was pregnant (although it was a great excuse to put my feet up and get foot massage off dh) but they went back to normal by about 6 weeks post birth. Although my feet have gone up half a shoe size and show no signs of going back to normal there!

My feet were ENORMOUS in the last few weeks of pregnancy, and shrunk overnight when I gave birth.

With DS1 I was oblivious to how big my ankles actually were until the day after he was born. They suddenly looked normal and I spent hours, yes hours admiring my lovely slim ankles as I had forgotten what they looked like!

go for a reflexology and a swim, and drink celery & cucumber juice every day. stay away from sweets, salty and startchy foods. hope you feel better.

What Lilly recommends, and also got your feet up above the level of your heart when you can...

I read a good tip on here - put a cushion or two under the foot of your mattress so that your feet are slightly elevated while you sleep. I had just started suffering from swollen feet/ankles, and I did this (as well as drinking gallons of water) and it seems to have sorted mine out. Even if it's nonsense, I guess it can't hurt!

Agree with all the advice, lie down and put your feet up above your heart level whenever you can and don't worry, it will go after you give birth but I remember it took a few days (was also worried I would have massive ankles for ever but luckily no... Not till pg again with DC2 anyway!)

thanks for all the advice i'm glad to hear they won't last forever x
