aquanatal or not?

Not a hugely strong swimmer but MW gave me a leaflet for a local aquanatal thing.

Am contemplating going if someone can tell me what sort of thing they do? I don't want to be swimming laps! Think it would be good to strengthen things up a bit.

Positive aquanatal stories welcome :)

Yes, yes, yes - cant recommend it enough!!

Ive only been 3 times but have really enjoyed myself, im 33 weeks and have a huge bump and its really nice to have a bit of a float and do a bit of exercise. There was a lady there last week who couldnt swim at all but we do it in the shallow end so she was only about waist deep in water and said afterwards that she really enjoyed herself.

We do mainly things like the spotty dog, lunges and a bit of line dancing (sounds stranger than it is) in the water, then a bit of stretching and then some work with floats. Its only 45 mins so not too long but i love it.

Go for it xx

I really recommend it too. Like wolfcub says, it's done in the shallow end and doesn't involve any swimming. The other great thing is that you can make it as hard or easy for yourself depending on how you're feeling. The lady that runs mine is a physiotherapist and she's got lots of great advice on what muscles need to be exercised and why.

I really recommend it too, although not sure I'm going to be able to go this time.

Last time it was fabulous. You don't to be a strong swimmer as has already been said. It's great towards the end as the water takes the weight of the bump, sooo comfortable. When I was overdue with dd and it was boiling hot, it was the highlight of my week. And the mw taking it had done my sweep so knew I was overdue, so we did lots of jumping on the last time I went. I had my baby that night!

Oooh yes go! I'd never done any aqua-aerobics type stuff before, but LOVED the pg class I did (am now desperate to go back to it, but have 4wo baby surgically attached to my boob!)

We didn't do any swimming in our class, just bounced around to music (so nice with the water supporting bump) and had fun trying to balance on woggles!

Why not give it a go? Ifyou don't like it, you don't have to go again!

MainlyMaynie · 17/05/2011 20:54

I love it. I've been going since 15 weeks and it's been brilliant. It's just so comfortable and nice to be able to do something without feeling weighed down. There is a bit of swimming in the class I do, which I can't manage due to SPD, but I just do something else while that's happening!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 17/05/2011 21:16

Ooh you've all convinced me! I'm 20+3 at the moment and the class runs on a Friday. This Fri I have my anomaly scan so will probably venture the week after if I can get childcare for DD.

Usually hate going to these types of things on my own but you never know, might make a new friend :)

Now to find a maternity tankini :)

Nice one coconuts! I got a maternity tankini from Next - was pretty cheap and seems good so far!

let us know how you get on, and good luck with the scan on Friday too!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 17/05/2011 22:03

Thanks Pink :) Hopefully will find out the sex and all being well can start looking at things to buy soon :)

Getting my BFP seems a lifetime ago...

Sorry to hijack the thread! But I'm interested in doing aquanatal too and these replies have convinced me that I would probably enjoy it! But I cant find any classes in my area - anyone know of any in the Sutton Coldfield or Birmingham area?

PinkFondantFancy · 20/05/2011 06:43

Hey CT just wanted to bump this for you. Sorry, I'm in Hertfordshire so I can't help. I went to the website of all the local pools and scoured their timetables - they're not always very good at advertising them. Otherwise, maybe your MW or GP could help?

BuffyFan · 20/05/2011 09:05

Hi CT there's this website that has a list of classes: aquanatal.co.uk/

I'm really struggling to find something in south Birmingham, hope you have better luck! Think Pink is right that pools aren't good at advertising so tbh I'm going to start ringing round

marie14 · 20/05/2011 19:47

My midwife gave me a leaflet for a local one in manchester, what sort of price is it?

PinkFondantFancy · 20/05/2011 20:21

Marie mine is £5 a session

MainlyMaynie · 21/05/2011 12:30
