Anyone taking Crinone/progesterone?

I used Crinone in my first pregnancy up to 12 weeks as we conceived using fertility medication (FSH injections) and there was a suggestion that I might have a short luteal phase/low progesterone although this was never confirmed.

I'm now pregnant (8 weeks) naturally and asked my gynae whether I should use Crinone in this pregnancy. He said that it wasn't necessary as I conceived naturally but understood my nervousness so said that it wouldn't harm me to take it but definitely no longer than 12 weeks.

I'm now 8 weeks and getting horrible side effects from the Crinone (particularly feeling very sore "down there" which I had last time but this time is much worse). I would like to stop but wondering if I should keep going until 12 weeks. The leaflet says IVF patients should take it for 30 days after conception which would be around 8 weeks, so I figure it would be safe to stop taking it now?

At what time did other people stop taking it?

hi, i've never used crinone but have taken progesterone suppositories (cyclogest). As far as I understand, the placenta starts taking over progesterone production around 10-12 weeks so supplements aren't necessary after that. you're probably fine to stop taking them since it sounds questionable whether you needed them anyway - but then again I'm sure you'd be gutted if something happened.

I'm taking 400mg cyclogest 2x/day but actually only have enough until around 10 weeks. (assuming I make it that far - i'm 8 weeks now). My GP agreed to prescribe some after I explained my history of low progesterone readings and miscarriage, and my IVF clinic had also advised it in an earlier pregnancy (my only successful one so far) although it was actually a natural conception. Progesterone still seems very controversial in this country, with low levels seen as a symptom not a cause of miscarriage.

Thanks, that's very helpful. Maybe I will continue until 10 weeks then. I'm also 8 weeks.

I had one unexplained MMC before this pregnancy and mu ob gyn recommended I take 400mg progesterone once a day "just in case" - I took it for 12 weeks and everything is fine.
I would go on for another few weeks if you can bear it! Good luck :)

Hi different circumstances I know but I had a late m/c in 2009 (21 weeks) and took cyclogest from 14 weeks until 34 weeks in my last pregnancy which was with identical twins. My progesterone levels during my cycle were fine it was just as a precaution, no idea whether it worked or not but I was willing to do anything and I now have very noisy 11 week old twin girls!

Hi there and congratulations! I'm roughly at week 5 or 6, I don't know as I got pregnant after a miscarriage and before an AF. I have been prescribed cyclogest 400mg and I have been told I should keep using them until week 12. Again, am willing to try anything if it helps this pregnancy. They do feel a bit odd and some days they do sting.

Thanks everyone, I will try and bear it until 12 weeks!

I was on cyclogest 400mg twice a day until 20 weeks. This is going to sound grim, but I found it was better to insert them rectally rather than vaginally Blush - I only did it vaginally a couple of times and it stung like hell and gave my cystitis. It's also got the benefit of no messy discharge and isn't anything like as horrible to do as you might think.
