Tiny bit of fresh blood after sweep

I had a stretch and sweep on wednesday, and was told to expect a tiny bit of bleeding afterwards. I did have a little, but not too much to be a concern, and by yesterday morning I had thought that it had stopped (it was brown blood).

However, I went to the loo this morning and when I wiped I noticed two tiny, and I mean tiny spots (no bigger than a pin prick each) on the paper afterwards, and since then I have noticed that the brown blood is back (although again, a really small amount and seems to be clearing up now).

Is this fresh blood something to worry about? Or the fact that I had the sweep nearly 4 days ago and am still getting a little bit of old blood from it? Am I worrying unneccesarily (it was only the size of a pin prick after all), or should I phone mw/labour ward for advice?

I really don't think you need to be worried. You have so many small blood vessels round your cervix that its quite common for some of those to be damaged a bit during a sweep. Then as your cervix is softening and preparing for labour this might continue, its why shows are often a bit bloody.

So no from what you've said I wouldn't be concerned. Are you happy with baby's movements?

WHen I had my first sweep with dd3, I lost some quite big clots (think period sized, not insignificant) and was told that that was considered normal, so I wouldnt worry about a couple of teeny spots aslong as your movements etc are ok.

All that said, if you are ever worried, dont hesitate to call your MW/hospital to get checked over. Thats what they are there for and its better to go and be told everything is fine and have your mind put at rest than worry yourself about it.

Thanks. I am sure I am worrying about nothing. Baby's movements have been normal today, so hopefully that's a good sign. If I hadn't looked at the loo paper, I would never have known anyway. Smile
